tankieboy 0 Posted July 12, 2005 sort of going OT but what would you need to become a medic in the army?proper medical trianing (i.e. doctors degree) A grades etc..? or could you just join and go into it and then get all the necessary training straight off? Wildo To join the regular Royal Army Medical Corps as a soldier you need no medical training. All training is done within AFAIK. All soldiers are trained to a medical standard in any part of the Army. In most parts of the Army higher trained medics are required within regiments (badged) for operational effectiveness. This is what I specialised in. Apart from Tank/AFV driver/gunner/operator and class one communications expert I got to sit in the back of land rovers drinking tea whilst others marched with heavy packs on, command the armoured ambulance (Samaritan) in the squadron on Tank ranges and exercise with four lovely comfy stretchers (three went to highest bidders on exercise) and drink tea, sit on my bum on small arms ranges drink tea and magically pass. Dragged along on adventure training and drink tea. etc., etc.... The new modern Army needs medical cover for most things. Since time began no one pi**es off the medic.
