gavinthecat 0 Posted June 17, 2005 Yeah sure u can capair however i expect all beta testers to lie in their reports, and to report only how wonderful the addons are despite the bugs, see thats how things work in er.. professional mods. Meanwhile, i was getting bumpocketed by a badger in regards to 'event handlers' I had totally reorganised all the scripts, into what i expect would have saved loads of time, only to create some irritating bug in the middle of it, when u do this with a script, u tend to create an irretrievable cycle in ofp, meaning restart , try again etc, total nightmare, back to square 1. Anyway, if u have cool ideas for event handlers, for the units, why not throw in ur ideas now, and ill see what i can do, When a team beta is ready, ill let u guys know, and u can sign up yer tour of duty then Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

gavinthecat 0 Posted June 19, 2005 http://img68.echo.cx/my.php?image=slouch6or.jpg Okay ya crazy boys, heres some union dismounted cavalry, other versions will include some with holsters, pistols, and their swords by yon side, Now i know ur all thinking, 'hey gav thats great but wheres the mounted cavalry' well er... their coming, albeit horses are being animated at the mo (with rider on) as a kind of animated riding vehicle with a script that lets u shoot the rider off (or dismount bless) u can shoot the horse and the rider will survive etc, now that might sound totally amazing, but at the moment its a bit cpu heavy, so some guys on the cwmod forum, (volanteers and some cwmod members) are working on a way to improve this. I too will probably check out that scene to lend a hand (as im a little bit of a scripter myself) So then, what are these guys good for ? Well their great, cos there a little more reckless than ur average joe, they pack shorter range carbines that can be reloaded faster (more firepower) and they did a lot of fighting off horse back too. I aint gonna sprout a history lesson on ya (cos we know that starts flames) but for example, in Gettysburg, union cavarly (dismounted) held of the confederates for quite a while, in a skirmish, delaying them while union positions could be reinforced etc. Plus they er... look cool God Bless Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

gavinthecat 0 Posted June 20, 2005 here is some very early screens of 'dragoon' cavalry, with muskets, yeah the rider is like a passenger, so u can shoot him off the horse, or u can shoot the horse and the rider is alive, and yeah the AI uses them to shoot, and thanx to me? no not at all, this is a beta of a work in progress between us, cwmod and some volanteers, tho cos they been sitting on the beta (cos heck we all have lives) i went and spruced up the test beta a bit, so we'll see if it gets or is still getting done, and if not then well anyway im babbling, heres a pic, enjoy http://img167.echo.cx/my.php?image=earlytest014ng.jpg Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

gavinthecat 0 Posted June 21, 2005 That aint a stupid question lol, Right well the horses are a vehicle, which means they cant be animated but parts can move, and the legs are placed like they are in motion, (this is an edited version of the pchorse) but with the legs and horse proportions remodelled and texture edited, so basically ive got to admit, when the horse moves, and cos of its geo lod wobble (slight) it looks like it is actually galloping. I wont lie its not gonna make u gush with animated beaty lol, but u will look at it and go hmm, a little cheesy but hey it works And if that means we have cav working ingame then its worth it that said the rider can be animated, and were working on that the now, so with that combined they should look pretty nifty. There is a melee script some boys worked on (all credits will go, as this is a coop project, but ive lost the names on my head right now) so then we can have sword attacks as well. Â Stage Coach etc. very important for the West at any rate. And the most important question of all...Have you plans for a paddle steamer on the boards? Â I'd totally understand if you haven't as it is a bit more "Vicksburg" and not "Gettysburg" and you've got so much excellent work to do. gavinthecat 0 Posted June 21, 2005 Railroads, yeah that would rock totally, but not in the first release, cos after all u guys will be waiting several millenia for that to happen lol. What is done so far is about like what popka says, 1 about 100+ good looking units with blood textures including those cav, and about 16 weapons, and automatic bayoneting too. 2 New custom GUI including 14 music tracks in the editor 3 A new custom island, (this is the one taking time, so if ur a map maker, or fancy having a go at object making, talk to me) 4 Several Single missions (we'd love a campaign but... will there be time) I think the first release will be a public beta, v0.9 or something and it should be in several weeks, things feel done, its just the little things that kinda drag it out, like for example, On the map i import custom objects, say new buildings etc, it all works fine and lovely, but... no wee logo appears on the editor map, so is that in the map cpp, or do u fix that with the editor? little things like that really Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
