Guest The Cobra Posted June 16, 2005 Sorry for asking, but a quick reply would be nice. In a server what do I need, and is it special OS for the server, like; can I create a server on my home computer? Thansk för answer
Gadger 0 Posted June 16, 2005 What do you plan on using it for? Co-Ops/CTF/CTI?
Gadger 0 Posted June 16, 2005 Ideally, for a decent, "lag-free" game you need a high end P4, 1gig of ram and a stable connection; your talking 10mbit min if you want a 7v7 or above. Its also important that the server be in relative distance to all the players, it defeats the object if the server is based west coast USA for example and the majority of the players are in Europe. If your just playing 2v2 then pretty much anything that can run flashpoint resistance will do, but the lag will be much more noticeable again when players fill their groups up with AI. Guest The Cobra Posted June 16, 2005 This good: P4 3.0Ghz 1Gb RAM Harddrive, do you need that?
Gadger 0 Posted June 16, 2005 This good:P4 3.0Ghz 1Gb RAM Harddrive, do you need that? Yep thats great, now depending on the speed of its net connection it could probably host a full game of many players with relatively little lag. The HD size and space has little impact on performance, just make sure there is more than enough space for Window's swap space after OFP is installed. >1GB is enough. Guest The Cobra Posted June 16, 2005 OK.. I have a 7gb harddrive somewhere in the piles of junk in the basement *taking out binocs" I have a 1,256mb connection.. to slow?
Gadger 0 Posted June 16, 2005 Should be fine for 4v4 and below on cti, higher for coop's ctf. If you lower the AI group limits you might be able to push for more.
RN Malboeuf 12 Posted June 16, 2005 OK.. I have a 7gb harddrive somewhere in the piles of junk in the basement *taking out binocs" Â I have a 1,256mb connection.. to slow? CTI 9v9 uses 1500 kbs CTI 15v15 uses 2500 kbs 1,256 mb fast is this a home conection or did you mean you have 1,256 kb upload which sounds right for home users that would be 1.256 mb you said you have this 1256000 kb when you might mean you have this 1256 kb

RN Malboeuf 12 Posted June 17, 2005 thats confusing 1256 megabits is 149.73 Megabytes servers can mainly be 100 megabits which is 11.921 Megabytes NAME BANDWIDTH BPS DS0 - 64 Kb/sec ISDN 2D+B 128Kb/sec T1(DS1) 24 DS0 1,544 Kb/sec ETHERNET ~ 6.5 T1s 10 Mb/sec T3 28 T1s 43,232,000 FAST ETHERNET ~ 65 T1s 100 Mb/sec OC3 100 T1 155 Mb/sec OC12 4 OC3 622 Mb/sec OC48 (Internet2) 4 OC12 2.5 Gb/second OC192 4 OC48 10 Gb/second so this is a rented server line or your home line? Metal Heart 0 Posted June 17, 2005 1,256 megabits = ~160 kilobytes / s (, as decimal). And that is a theoretical maximum. But is the connection symmetric? (as in upload bandwith equals download bandwith). Usually consumer connections are asymmetric like mine 2Mbit down / 256 kilobit up. That means roughly 220 KB/s down and 30 KB/s up. Guest The Cobra Posted June 17, 2005 Checking out Chello's webpage, I found out that I'm using "Chello Plus", with 4Mbps downstream, and 1Mbps upstream. Any help?
Metal Heart 0 Posted June 17, 2005 Quote[/b] ]1Mbps upstream That's 128 KB/s. b=bit, B=byte, 1 byte=8 bits, 1M=1024k, 1k=1024. It's 1024 and not 1000 because of binary system, though some hard drive manufacturers disagree . Try running some missions with a few players and use #monitor command to see bandwith and memory usage, and server "fps" too. edit: You must be logged in as admin to use monitor command.
