Oooo sounds good thumbs-up.gif

Any chance, as a tribute to the end of the career of the Sea Harrier, (it made its LAST SORTIE from HMS Illustrious today sad_o.gifsad_o.gif ) that you'd make one representing this example? inlove.gif

That is quite sad.

So many questions and wow's.

Interior Lighting! Altitude 'Helper'?

Interior Lighting – only on when the “lights†are on.

interior%20lighting_t.jpg

Altitude Helper – Its the box with the 3 chevrons below it.

helper1_t.jpg

The idea is that you try to fly the VVI icon (little plane icon) inside the box and it keeps you at the desired altitude. You can choose from 3 height settings 15/25/50m.  Its really useful for low level attacks, Carrier landings and low vis flying.  And it acts as a pull up marker when diving into to strafe target with the guns.  Its not quite what they have in the real aircraft but i couldnt simulate TerProM (Answer.com Explantion) software without affecting the flight model so this is as close as i get for the moment.

Just to explain the HUD - everything you see there works, clockwise from left upper corner:

Digital Speed

Compass

Digital Altimeter

VSI (dotted vertical bar and caret)

TFR50 - this shows the "helper" setting: 50 - 25 - 15 - OFF

GRID Coords - Standard OFP maps only atm anything larger than Nogova and it struggles.

Speed Line - Shows the limit of the aircraft speed - full speed and the line is all the way up and vice versa.

Finally the Artificial Horizon is set in 10 degree increments - that may change to 5 later.  THe pitch angles are correct and the T-Bar is set to the horizon.

There are 3 HUD Modes:

NAV - As shown

AA - Air to Air – de-clutters the HUD and places a (purely cosmetic atm) Sidewinder Lock ring in the centre.

AG - Air to Ground - again de-clutters the HUD and adds a "Fall line" to the centre of the HUD to help line up ground targets.

None of the HUD modes are scripted or include a CCIP sight - I did investigate the possibility of making one with minimal scripts but realistically it needs to be scripted to be accurate.

As for the Warning lights all but 4 have a proper use that will be supported.  The Map system uses DKM scripts (Thanks Jag) and if i can get it to work will support Zoom.

Finally - I really shouldn’t have to say this but if i don’t someone will whine - THESE ARE NOT THE FINISHED ITEMS - THEY ARE ONLY A BETA - we've been concentrating on functionality rather than cosmetics so yes they are ugly, and yes they will be changed.

Any chance, as a tribute to the end of the career of the Sea Harrier, (it made its LAST SORTIE from HMS Illustrious today     ) that you'd make one representing this example?

The version we've made here is NOT a Sea Harrier (SHAR)... its the RAF GR7 which is replacing the SHAR from today.

However I do plan on making an FA2 as much to mark the demise of the last wholly British made fighter to leave UK service and to say thanks and acknowledge some of the guys at the former 800 & 801 Naval Air Squadrons for their help, info and their hospitaily when i went to visit RAF Wittering and Cottesmore.  Between the Fleet Air Arm and the guys from RAF’s 1 & 4 Squadrons they have made sure that I’ve been given some very good info and a fair few hangovers whilst begging for info.

Next Questions please… :P

Simply fantastic! The horizon ball needs a bit of rescaling though... the pitch lines aren't aligned yet.

No it doesnt its perfectly aligned thank you.

If you want a perfect Horizon show me a way to make the 'ball' animation appear to slide properly as the real software does. Its a limit of OFP's animation system, once leveled out its perfectly aligned.

Well the OFrP's Jaguar had perfectly aligned pitch ladders, so I know it's possible

Damn Rock this stuff is getting better and better by the day, this is such a realistic addon for ofp. This will keep me busy for atleast another 10 years! rofl.gifwink_o.gif

Love the detail on the cockpit and the systems! But are those screens multi colour? Or green, Ive visited RAF Laarbruch a long time ago, and we got a sit inside the cockpit but I can remember something about the screen being greenish in colour...? I can be wrong though cuz It was really long ago. Its nice that the controls will work with the keyboard which will allow much easier flying.

Keep it up! thumbs-up.gif 10/10!

Actually it only looks that way - change the FOV setting to the same as the Harrier and it looks just the same.  No amount of scaling will change that.

"REAL" HUDs don’t animate like OFP does, you would never get the same perspective distortion they you get in OFP.  Now i could easily restrict the field of View to 'correct' the effect but it looks crap and means you cant see the rest of the cockpit... gameplay/usability vs. the quest for a perfect horizon.  I'm guessing that most people wont care about the tiny 1 degree drift on the horizon bar.

...incidentally the horizon ball geometry and pilot proxy placement is exactly the same as the OFrP jaguar.  Its the same mesh with different textures.

The MFDs in the GR5 and early GR7’s were green.  But the later model GR7/ 7A & GR9 all have (256?) colour displays apparently.

How the MFD maps look in the release really depends on how much time I get. But I would like to get maps for all the major islands and provide “appropriately†coloured images. But to do that would really take some serious time that I don’t have right now.

The cockpit shown is far from complete once i get my act together it should be fairly detailed and as accurate as i can make it within the limits of OFP's engine.

Altitude Helper, GRID Coords and HUD AG "Fall line" to help line up ground targets sounds fantastic.

I just hope a fat tankie can fly it!

Great news that you plan on making an FA2.

Next Questions please… :P

www.raf.mod.uk is down atm so I will save my other questions.

Well if a fat Rockape can fly it you should be able to tounge2.gif

Maybe some of us could help you out if you tell us which maps you want?

Well basically im after a 512x512 images of each map:

I have all the default ones, I need:

BAS Tonal 1 (BAS_I1)

BAS Tonal 2 (BAS_I2)

All FDF Islands

WGL Gaia

PWM Midway

CAT Afghanistan

Dak Seang Island

New land

Bahadur

Ivtiliac

Salang

Novajev

SEB Ilo

…and any others anyone would like to add. I'll be happy to add support for any that the community wanted included (where possible - to the limit of the map scripts).

If any island makers want their islands added please send me a 512x512 image or the entire island space AND the class name that you use for your island and I’ll added it to the default scripts.

Thanks

Rock

Targa file has been saved as 24-bit in 512x512 resolution.

PSD file is available.

Bitmap rar'ed and available in 1024x1024 in case you want to make changes.

Quote[/b] ]BAS Tonal 1 (BAS_I1) - <span style='color:red'>Done</span>.

BAS Tonal 2 (BAS_I2) - <span style='color:red'>Done</span>.

All FDF Islands

WGL Gaia

PWM Midway

CAT Afghanistan - <span style='color:red'>Done</span>.

Dak Seang Island - <span style='color:red'>Done</span>.

New land - <span style='color:red'>Done</span>.

Bahadur

Ivtiliac - I can't get this island to show up with textures in the editor. I'm guessing it's because I'm missing an addon. If you want a textureless map, I can provide it.

Salang

Novajev - <span style='color:red'>Done</span>.

SEB Ilo - <span style='color:red'>Done</span>.

Will update with more as I or others get done. Oh, also if you could let me know what format you want it in, I'll upload them as such from now on.

No problem, Rock. smile_o.gif

Unfortunately, I don't have FDF installed sad_o.gif so I won't be able to help you there. I think the only other island I will be able to get for you is Bahadur. I'll post it when I get the chance.

Abs

[Edit: If you'd like a mirror for your Harrier when you do release it, please let me know. I'll be more than willing to oblige.]

Yes and No.  tounge2.gif

Yes all RAF & RN GR7/9 squadrons will be supported using hidden selections. Although the special High Viz tail markings may not make an appearence.  I will also be adding support for "nose art" on the models.

And due to requests there will also be the Nato & Lichen Green late 90's colour scheme supported.

Maybee MIA IRAZ island in the map?!

Because its desert island and very open, its a nice map to do desert missions...? Just an idea...

And maybee also Mapfact Nogova, it has the improved runway and all! <would be easy I guess... the map remains same shape as normal nogova

ppl also seem to like DMA Lybia...

Personally I would love to see An Najaf map but its not done yet... Too bad my own RAF Laarbruch recreation isnt anywhere near to being completed. Missing a proper HAS! wink_o.gifbiggrin_o.gif

These all are just ideas!

NATO? Is that the Blue & Green camo? Didn't know we ever had GR.7s painted like that. Fancy doing an 'arctic' version too? biggrin_o.gifhttp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1003160/L/

I'm really looking forward to this anyhow Rock, the number of features you're planning for it is astonishing. A Harrier with key-bound thrust vectoring is a dream come true mate.

Quick question though; have you done any work worth mentioning on the Nimrod recently? I was down sort of RAF Cottesmore-Wittering way the other week when one flew over. Looked like they'd gone and painted it grey like all the other planes we have. Reminded me to ask about yours.

No its not the blue and green. I meant NATO green and Lichen Green two tone scheme adopted for the GR5 and early GR7.

And the arctic version was planned when i did the green scheme.

Ive not done much to the nims worth mentioning - ive bee slowly rebuilding the stuff i lost in "the Great Server Suicide". Basically lots of details but nothing too noticable.

Re the Nimrod colours- the MR2s have been painted in 2 schemes, blue grey for 120 Sqdrn and the rest are the hemp.

The R1 is also blue grey so the odds are you saw either a 120 squadron plane or an R1
