#pcw.ofp - A new Idea

Recommended Posts

GTs idea, i just posting it smile_o.gif

Hello,

I've come up with a simple idea that i dont think has been done yet and it could benefit the activity and speed of online clan gaming in OFP. Im an old school CS player as well as an OFP player and recently have come back to OFP. In CS there are lots of clans and leagues, many clans want to have practice wars to practice strats out on clans that theyve never met possibly. This tests out many clans skill and that is why we have practice clan wars. Basically on IRC in CS there are many channels for pcw's (practice clan wars). So, i thought it would be a good idea to setup an IRC channel on quakenet which will be a place where clan members can visit and arrange wars with other clans and quickly, the clan would state in their message on the channel: how many for the match, what map, what time if any and the skill level.

For example:

5on5|St Pierre|Now|Low Skilled| PM Me

Then the server IP and password will be PM'd to the person wanting a match, this way the server IP and password can be exchanged quickly. Then both teams would join the server and then play the match.

Ive talked enough now, but that is the basic concept of what i want to do if you feel like it is a good idea and would perhaps want to help in keeping the channel alive download mirc (www.mirc.com) and then join the quakenet server and type : /join #pcw.ofp

I thought i would post this here as it would be a place where i know clans that are involved with the league would visit.

Thankyou very much,

GT

many of us dont allow IRC of any kind onto our computers for the lack of security that comes with IRC

the horry stories of what they can get off your computers are are not fables

after 3 years of OFP, most have each others contacts, i have some 200 OFP players in my MSN

What lack of security is that? If you're worried about some IRCop or FBI agent reading your discussion then try SILC instead, but that's just being a bit paranoid if you ask me... :P

you should know better then most how undetected access/information can be gained over IRC's older style security, who cares about cops and FBI.

Maybe he is referring to the countless security flaws in the mirc tool and thinks they are flaws of the irc net instead?

I have used irc for years and i don't know what information one could get in irc that i can't get from you when you are on icq or msn...

http://www.digistar.mb.ca/client/safety/lesson1.htm

comparing IRC to MSN or ICQ is like comparing windows 98 mcaffee 1st year addition antivirus to the latest windows with the latest antivirus soft ware, it's just too outdated to be remotely safe

it's just not safe, just because it has not happen to "advanced" users does not means its safe to others to use

Hey Mal, Read your first post again.

Can you tell me why you always have to throw poo at people trying to make improvements? You say IRC is shit because u read at a "online guide lesson for dummies" site? (i wont laugh, LOL, sry)

Go and read the benifits IRC could bring to our community. Thanks

Some admin should delete his post so he dosnt scare people away.

I dont see any where where I trashed you or the idea, and posting a link to help make sure non advance users take the IRC internet security issues more seriously a very serious post

look at this whole thread, you have two advance users who seem to have forgot what the average users go through to clean up thier system because they followed some advice, went to some website, or loaded IRC

I clean up OFP User systems daily , and see the effects of what happens every morning when my MSN goes nutz

Take my office at work, 5 work stations (two of which are wireless laptops for off site jobs), I spend 2 hours a week cleaning up messes from the owners 6 daughters (3 each) when they come to "use the net" this is suppost to be a clean network, but when my main server throws a fit and pages my cell phone because one of the stations is trying to load an IRC server through the network i have to stop every dam thing im doing to make sure the server is not compromised

and those two lap tops i mentions, i could't count the times i stripted them clean of IRC/Spyware/viruses

But then i live in a town that has no concept of safety, i can walk any where in town and leach/file surf off of 100 or so open Wireless networks because no one takes the time to explain the issues

Do me a favor and turn off all your fire walls so all the ppl you help to infect daily will destroy your computer

because hey, no one needs a firewall

How do you "load IRC"? It seems you are again mixing up mIRC and IRC, what you're saying makes as much sense as saying the HTTP protocol is not secure because Internet Explorer has so many security holes. None of the things in your "internet safety tutorial" have anything to do specifically with IRC, all of those things listed might as well be done through MSN, ICQ, email, or anything else that allows you to come in contact with other internet users.
