Hunting for Submarines

Recommended Posts

It's not just compressed, it's encrypted. " .3db "

Go here: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/NWS-NWP/

for the Naval Warfare Project Fleet Command Forum. Perhaps it might be beneficial to first ask Warship ( the project leader ) if you could use their models for OFP, before attempting to hack them. He's a nice guy, I've known him a long time, as he and I frequent the NWS, and Harpoon communities.

However,I expect this isn't going to fly with him, as they are fiercly protective of their work, and may be attempting to create their own in-house modern naval warfare simulation.

Good luck.

I'm not an advocate of ripping models from other games but they are sometimes rather useful as templates for scale and detail. Its also interesting to see how people have modelled things.

There are a number of file decrypters on the net etc but i dont know any that support 3db.

Ok Isuppose the next question is has anyone got any schemeatics of subs?

The Nimrod MR2/4 is based soley at RAF Kinloss... I'm an Air Cadet, and that's the nearest RAF base, so i'm over there regularily, and they take great pride in telling us that they're the only ones cept the R1s down in Waddington.

I can also vouch for these beasties flying low, as i live between RAF Kinloss and the North Atlantic... they are loud at low level...

Well that’s not strictly true... although Kinloss is their home base you will frequently see MR2's operating from any number of RAF bases and one or two civilian airfields around the UK.

BAE/Airbus Filton housed and operated one or two for a few weeks a year from 2001 to 2003 due to the MR4 project design offices based there. I had the opportunity to have a good nose around and had a very brief joyride with some VIPs when i worked there.

There's only 21 MR2 airframes and only 3 R1s currently in service. The MR4 is still undergoing trials and user acceptence testing.

Have the airframes from the AEW project been used in the MR4 project then?

Yeah, the ones that could be. They were "stored" at Kinloss and Lossiemouth at the end of the dispersion fields. But after a few years the salt air corroded some pretty badly. I think out of thr the 3 airframes available only 2 were taken to BAE Woodford for refurb. The other was picked clean and then scrapped.

Well, well for the search and rescue role I'm struggling adding support.

I was thinking about being able to drop life rafts etc - only thing is that its hardly practical.

One thinking i'm looking into it smoke markers...anyone else got an suggestions for practical suggestions?

@ Nov. 02 2004,15:08)]what about the ability to radio in the aircraft's position (when you find a missing ship) and then a SAR helo would be vectored to that location or grid ref.

Yeah was thinking about that with the marker smoke etc but as far as i know that can be done with the laser designator and mission triggers - it wouldnt be part of the aircraft addon itself.

If only UK had Ecranoplans like these...  wow_o.gif

Some of those are used for SAR... but they'd be a different addon entirely...

Well i think i have hands full with all my current backlog...I'm not sure i want to take on another project right now smile_o.gif

Ok - quite a bit of progress on the Nimrod.

I only have the some textures, cockpit and instrumentation to finish and a few minor things to tidy up.

I'll release a BETA of the MR2 in the near future and the later release will include the R1 and MR4 varients.

BUZZARD @ Nov. 10 2004,18:18)]What about the Oscar class SSGN? Thinking of turning it into a juicy target?

We'll see. For the moment i'm happily destroying Puak Class attack ships and ECL's Kilo Class sub... and occasionally the USS Nimitz wink_o.gif

The Nimrod's looking spiffy. I've already been dreaming up co-op missions about blowing up captured aircraft and rescuing the crews before the baddies can work out how it all works biggrin_o.gif

If the CoC can lock it - it can kill it.

Alternatively I'm trying to develop some "depth charges"...just some scripting required thats causing a bit of pain...so it should be able to destroy most things if you can find them...:)

Nice work. Now we can finally muck about with a big british aircraft, despite the fact it's not a vulcan.

Anyone thought of a Trident or That refuelling aircraft we use...cant remember it's codename.

Oh and these depth charges...maybe they could be used by some WW2 naval vessels.

About the depth charges, Klink used them on his multipul gun boats didn't he. the ww2 one, Perhaps fi you asked him about them, he maybe able to give you a helping scripting hand.

Also the re-fueling tankers we use now are VC10's and Tristars, I suppose they would be interesting to play around with, but I think I would prefure a Nimrod, you can blow stuff up then!  biggrin_o.gif

Great Work, really liking this addon!

As another project.... How about seeing a Seaking? Both in RAF SAR / Royal Navy / marines /and army skins? As well as several US skins too. Seeing as how the US used to use them. The Nimrod can then do SAR search patterns and then you can vector in a Seaking helo when visual on SAR target is confirmed. Also the US version of the Nimrod.... The P-3 Orion would be nice to have as well.... It launches sonar-buoys and anti ship harpoon missiles.... As well as torpedos. The P-3 is the workhorse of the USN anti-submarine maritime patrol program.... My senior Naval science instructor who was ranked as a LCDR was a flight officer On board P-3's for 20 year.... Before he retired and decided to instruct NJROTC cadets. He was stationed in Hawaii and Alaska and different islands in the Pacific.

Personally, I would just prefure a finnished Nimrod, lets forget about asking about new addons, let one be finished first.

Hah someone beat me to it...:)

I do have some other projects in mind but first come first completed.

There are alot of SeaKings out there, as well as a number of other Potential SAR platforms.  I dont have any plans for making any more.

Doing a P-3 Orion wouldnt be impossible but its not going to be a high priority.

To be honest i've not done much serious development with the Mines - i have the models just not the scripts.  I will have a look at the PT boats and a word with Heir Klink.

I do have plans to make compliments for the Nimrod and other aircraft used by the RAF, but they aren't ready for public viewing.

Thanks for the interest and comments guys.

Seaking SAR... under construction, 22 Sqdn, A flight, RAF.

Tristar KC, also under construction.

Rock has a very impressive collection of material from all the pictures I have seen.

Tip Rock, concentrate on one addon at a time, I am suffering from the opposite...
