looks good, but how do u plan to keep lagg down in battles that had thousands of men dieing in the mud...

and these huge city addons should be broken up inot more smaller pieces and assembled in say wrptool

looks cool tho

keep it up smile_o.gif

Well drow, if you stop and think, WW1 was fought on

open fields and occasionally threw forests.

Which will take up much less system resources then

a high pollie sky and think Nam undergrowth.

Also the buildings appear to be very basically modeled

so I highly doubt that will lag.

Just because a game engine is from 1998 doesn't mean

something new and improved made today will lag.

This mod is really doing a very good job of keeping

things within the tight constraints everyone wants

and no one has noticed.

The addons look very good. Keep up the good work people.

Hy,

the whole City Addon Block comes along with 6.200 Points. You can see a merchant ship and a sub in the background, the merchant ship itself has some more points (6.500), the sub 4.000 Points, so the city addon won't stress the engine. Additionaly the addon city package uses only a very limited number of textures to speed it up.

But you are right, this city adon must be split in several pieces, because geometry lod now holding 99 components, thats maybe to much, sometimes collision request is ignored. This only happens if everything is displayed as one object.

Another problems with this addon is that, if a soldier get prone he could fall through the structur and tanks entering the city were hopping around like crazy table-tennis balls in the first seconds ...

Any suggestions...???

This is a question about line of sight values and individual computer power. In normal gameplay my computer can keep about 200 soldiers running around. For ww1 this will give the attacker a troopstrength of about three platoons (54 men each) (in all a understrength company) and the defender in the trenches only needs a 1/6 number of men if he is supported by Mgs.

Player in position of a company leader will be stressed by organizing the attack, deciding when and where reserves should be used, often consulting the map and staying in the background, so the total number of models that must be hold by the engine is not to high.

WW1 mod sounds great ! Please keep the screenshots coming.

Alot of the AI stuff has gotten better lately, people have worked out alot of the issues, decent trench warfare is possible.

Sounds like you have concentrated mainly on the vehicles and maps, you have a horse in the workings or using one that may be out soon?

Hey,

horses are a big big problem, we are concentrating on the MIG Mule. I haven`t heard someone else have tried to make a horse.

About trenches: trenches are also causing a lot of problems. The attacking AI have to find a roadway to cross the trenches while the defending AI shouldn`t know about it. Trenches should be organized as class buildings to use the path lod for placing soldiers, but on the other side the hole object should follow ground height. Using his last feature causes problems with geometry lod and path lod, because if terrain is not flat the AI can't find the "in" positions to get in the trench or collision failed and soldiers fade through the object. We are still working on it to overcome this problems...

Hey,

for those who have historical informations:

We are currently looking for data for cars, trucks and armored cars that are ww1 related. We have plans for most vehicles but we couldn`t find any dimensions and technical datas, all plans are not scaled. So if you have informations about Lenght, Height, Width, mass, loading, ammo stored and speed this will be really helpfull.

Thanks
