Scud 0 Posted October 4, 2004 Is there any way to speed up the response time for AI chopper pilots?? Its is so annoying when you all leave the base together then have to wait 5 mins at the lz for them to catch up to you. problem is worse if you make turns along the way. Footmunch 0 Posted October 4, 2004 Try increasing maxSpeed (which seems to apply to the AI, rather than the flight model), or reduce formationTime.
Scud 0 Posted October 4, 2004 glad you brought that up coz i have set max speed to 90 and the bird tops 300 in game. so, how do i reduce the 'max speed' of the chopper??

Cant resist this one Ground the pilot! Sorry Scud.. Yep speed in OFP is a b**** to get the speed you want you need to drop to half or even a third.. sometimes. However if you want the max speed sometimes you have to increase it.. why I don't know.. one of OFP's mysteries I guess. But it does depend on mass as well. Scud 0 Posted October 5, 2004 Bird already weighs 5x more then it should. Flys like friggen LHX and not what it is. Any ideas on what these settings do? <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">maxMainRotorDive = 0; // rotor diving capability maxBackRotorDive = 0; minMainRotorDive = 0; // rotor diving capability minBackRotorDive = 0; neutralBackRotorDive = 0; neutralMainRotorDive = 0;
Footmunch 0 Posted October 5, 2004 The speed of choppers seems to be _entirely_ to do with GeoLOD. None of the config settings seem to do anything. The 'XXXdive' values allow you to 'tip' the main rotor forward. Check the BIS Chinook, which has this IIRC.
Scud 0 Posted October 5, 2004 So give it the geo of a flying brick and that may slow it down? Just had a ride from North to south Malden sitting on edge of deck feet on the skid. Top speed over 400 with Absentminded Imbecile as pilot. Very scarey
Scud 0 Posted October 6, 2004 OK all sorted, thanx Same geo lod just increased or decreased rotor diameters for desired performance. Yep, max speed does only seem relevant to AI not flight model. Now has anyone solved this landing backwards? Also, when flaring. Can I reduce or stop the amount that the chopper raises in alt when it should be dropping? Footmunch 0 Posted October 7, 2004 Flaring is done fairly well in the OFP engine. You just have to hit the collective at the right time (easier with a joystick, btw).

(Which is better then what I had)
