Custom Face Request

Recommended Posts

Here's the face. smile.gif

The mouth looks a little bit funky here but it looks OK in game.

And the hair is not exactly the hair Gary has in real life. I also included my Hands-o-Realismâ„¢ so you won't have those turd dipped hands when you play. smile.gif

Alright Thunder,

I did a quick and dirty Gary Busey for ya. It took only 5 minutes and I think it came out surprizingly good for such a quick job.  There's a few minor problems though.  To do it right, you need:

1) A large, STRAIGHT face shot with no shadows, lots of facial detail, and little facial expression (Since the OFP 3D model does the facial annimation for you).

2) What I did was just the face only, not the hair.  So you've got black hair instead of that characteristic blond hair.  In most cases, this won't matter, since the character has a helmet on and you rarely see the hair anyway.

3) The best photo for OFP that I could find on those websites wasn't too good for this purpose.  The face shots had a bit of angle, which screws up the face a little when you see the nose is off slightly.  As I said already, you NEED a somewhat large, straight on face shot, well lit up with not too much facial expression.  Of coarse, Gary Busey is a guy who has very unique facial expressions, and those certainly won't transfer to OFP, unfortunately.

Check the next message to get the face.

Wait a sec. I'll see if I can post it here like that other one. I haven't done this before, so I hope it works:

I worked on it a little more today, on the skin and the hair. I'm *NOT* an artist in any way, shape, or form. I just have some cool graphic software. I'm sure there's lots of people who could do far better, but here's what I got:

I use Photoshop for graphics. If you need a good freeware art app then you should try Gimp.

I'm glad you like the face(s).

Hey Heyvern. If that is your first attempt on face making then I can't wait to see what you can do with a little bit of practise. smile.gif

I've been planning to do a tutorial about custom faces but I've never found the time to do it. Is there any interest for such a thing to do? I remember that there was some talking about that I should make a tutorial but I didn't have the time to do it then. I may have some time on my hands now so I might do a tutorial for Photoshop users.

Hehe. Well, 3rd attempt on face making actually.

First attempt was for my own face. That sucked BIG TIME. I still can't seem to get my own face to work well at all.

Second was my friends. Ironically, that went perfect! It didn't take me long at all (about 1.5 hours of tweaking), and it came out damn, near perfect.

Third face was this one, and I'm suprized it went so quickly. That first one was literally about 5 minutes, and the second one with the blond hair and improved skin color was an additional 30 minutes of work.

As for a guide on how to do faces . . . there WOULD be some interest, but I'm not sure if it's enough interest to justify all the documentation. I couldn't really say what I did, because I just jumped around and tried MANY different tools in Paint Shop Pro. Mostly it was just a lot of the "copy and paste" routine. Copy the face over. Copy some skin over. Blend the colors together. Pop into OFP and see how it looks. Exit and repeat the "copy & paste" tweaking process until done.

Generally it's very time consuming, but this Busey face really didn't take me long at all! Now I gotta go back and try MY face again. I've spent a long time on that and I still haven't got it even close to being right. For some reason, I just don't think the geometry of the OFP face model seems to agree with my face at all. And getting my skin color right seems to be a total pain-in-the-arse.
