Congo Query

I was thinking of making some Congo missions from the 1960s and am looking for enough addons to make a credible imitation of the Irish troops that were there, the Katangans they mostly fought (with white mercenary leaders) and some of the UN support.

What Im looking for to start are:

Lee Enfield N04 rifles

Gustav 45 SMG

Bren Gun

Ferret scout car

M8 Greyhound

Swedish fighter known as "Flying barrel"

M113 suited to the period (Ireland was briefly supplied with 11 petrol engined early model M113s)

Scania APC

In and ideal world a Ford MKVI armoured car, Im definite theres no such addon because Ireland was the sole manufacturer of this vehicle and the only other users were the Congolese national army after we left them ours.

Troops that can pass for Irish (US lightweight OG jungle fatigues and M1 helmet) preferably with no national markings, also troops that could pass for the swedish contingent with the Swedish army's small arms of the time.

Finally the best island to represent Congo

the "flying barrel" (Saab J29) will be included in Swedish forces pack (release 4)

if you with "gustav 45 SMG" mean what the americans call a "swedish K" that will be included to

The "Flying Barrel" will make an appearance in SFP 4.0, and the Kpist M/45 is availible in SFP 3.0. Info about both can be found here. I also beleive that SFP 4.0 will contain the PBV 301 (might be the 302...), that I think was used in Congo. But the infamous "KP-Bil" is not there.

Also, here is what Swedish soldiers wore during the conflict:

The SEB NAM PACK 2 soldiers could pass off as Swedish soldiers, as you see.

This, page however can probably offer better info than I can though

WW2EC have an Enfield No4 and Bren in their British pack. Marfy's working on a M8 Greyhound too I believe.

The 301 existed when Sweden was operating in Congo, did it not? I'm not saying it was used in Congo, but it was still in service in Sweden. Wasn't it?

the 301 was in service just 4 years..... and it came at the same time as the congo misson... the 302 replaced the 301 and is still in use...

though i would just love to se the SKP M/42 with twin watercooled M/36 MG´s

so frickin cool.....

if some addonmaker want´s to make it i would be glad to try and get some reference photos and maybe even a blueprint...

the M/45 swedish SMG is almost copy of Finnish M/31 Suomi SMG, other copy of Suomi SMG is PPD-40 (almost a copy...)

Well there were plenty of belgians with the katangans...

Well I did a bit of fiddling about last night and the results are visible in the Combat photography thread, basically so far I've taken the Seb Nam soldiers and given them WWIIEC Enfields and Brens and the SebNampack M45 SMG.

For an island I'm using Tonal and the Government forces are pretty decent stand ins for the katangans with FALs and MAG58s, other details as I find them.

Edit: Im looking into some minor retexturing to create an addons pack, if I conclude theres enough interest (Swedes?) I'll proceed to put together a mini campaign for Congo nostalgists.

If any mods dealing with the 50s and 60s have stuff that might be relevant that would be great.
