Farske 0 Posted July 12, 2004 Hello I played OFP demo years ago and loved it, then forgot about the game, in november last year I went to game and saw OFP GOTY edition and snatched it up with glee. I played it, it worked I formatted and had other games. Recently I upgraded my system and now have. (I made the system myself): Operating System: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1 System Manufacturer: ASUSTeK Computer INC. System Model: A7N8X-X BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2600+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.1GHz Memory: 512MB RAM Page File: 180MB used, 4302MB available DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0b (4.09.0000.0902) GFX Card: Radeon 9600 Pro 256mb PowerColor Sound (Onboard) : NVIDIA® nForce Audio 3 HardDrives. (all big) 1 DVD Player. 1 CD/RW. (not attached due to harddrive) Yesterday I installed the game, patched it then came online and patched it again to 1.96 (latest one) and started to play. Wow the memories, the emotion! I loved it, I enjoyed the brief story and was like THEN the terrible happened. It suddenly froze, I couldnt do a thing, frozen and I HAD to restart. No sound, no movement, nothing it was all froze. I tried again, froze. I changed loads of settings, tried again, I turned down agp to x4, then down to OFF I turned off fast write, I turned down my Bios settings. I have searched and searched and alas, I am still in dire need of advice. If anyone knows anything please let me know. I HAVE emailed BIS and thought I should ask here too. Thanks in advance, and anything I missed please do ask. Regards Farske

Farske 0 Posted July 12, 2004 I've done everything I could find on the posts here, and Avon Ladys website faq. And it still does not want to work. I have checked and its not my system overheating either (ive been doing a load of tests). Arg! Its annoying, Im dieing to play! Please someone! Thanks so far .F edit. p.s I also unistalled ATI Cata and installed OMEGA drivers hoping that would work. Although they look better, it still freezes. Farske 0 Posted July 12, 2004 Oh god, dont say that! It may be, I'll go test it, but I've had the system a good 3 months and the other games work *shrug*. Could the RAM degrade or get a problem randomly, over time? Ill hawl out my computer and have a look. Thanks *Sighs* ONWARDS!! be back soon! .F
Mister Frag 0 Posted July 12, 2004 Start by running MemTest86 to see if you have bad RAM, or RAM that is simply being pushed beyond its timing limits. You can download a CD-burnable ISO from the site that can be booted independently of the Windows OS, and there is also some useful information there on what to do if a problem is found. Farske 0 Posted July 12, 2004 I took the Ram out, GFX Card out and cleaned the case of dust. A lot of dust on the back of the GFX Card. Ram was fine. My GFX card overheats so I have a makeshift group of fans around it, which works fine. Downside is dust forms on back.. Its clean. I've downloaded this MemCheck whacked it on a floppy, and Will go a check now. Thanks so far! -F.
Farske 0 Posted July 13, 2004 Hello I did the 11 hour test and its completely fine. Just to make sure, does anyone know how to delete the data stored in the L1, L2 Cache's and the RAM? Maybe the RAM is fine, but whats stored in it could be dodgy?? Would it work like that? Thanks so far for you help everyone. Kind, Happy & Hopeful Regards .F p.s. Nice community here so far. turbobyk 0 Posted July 13, 2004 You haven't downloaded nvidia drivers for an ati card? that doesn't work you know! Move to ati's homepage! Radeon 9600 is a model by ATI. So, I give you an advice: go to ati's homepage, download the update/patch for you ATI card, and download a new version of catalyst.. It's currently 4.7 I think! have fun! Farske 0 Posted July 13, 2004 No if you read above I HAVE used the ATI cata drivers. I decided to download the OMEGA Drivers and they are supported by ATI but by someone else. All they are, are the ATI Cata Drivers, with extra options and tiny mods. Ive tried both and they both freeze. I'll try this nforce, then try both ATI Cata and OMEGA ones. tata F

NVIDIA also makes chipsets to support AMD CPUs, and that's what he has -- an NVIDIA NFORCE2 chipset. Depending on the exact chip, it includes a memory controller, IDE controller, Ethernet controller, USB controller, serial / parallel I/O controller, FireWire (IEEE 1394) controller, and audio processing. Farske 0 Posted July 13, 2004 Ok, I downloaded it and installed the update for the chipset. I loaded up flashpoint and it crashed to desktop with omega I unistalled omega drivers and installed ATI CATA drivers, and it worked until the end of the first campaign mission (shooting the men at your home) then it froze when I clicked the Stats page/paper. I dont know if its a conicedence, but all in all it still has the problem. Im about to uninstall and reinstall OPF and then patch it up and see if the reinstall NOW works *sigh* joys.. but dont you hate it when you can taste the game!! I had a bit of it and It was great.. I could taste it!! *mutters* then it crashed. Thanks so far for your support, any other ideas? Regards Farske
Farske 0 Posted July 13, 2004 I did a complete reinstall and played... it crashed. Argh. Any ideas anyone? *sigh* -F
Heatseeker 0 Posted July 13, 2004 After reading all this im out... you say you can run all other games correct? How about instaling just original OPF version 1 and see if that runs, also you told us you instaled 2 patches but resistance only requires 1.96 i think? Also the last time i tried to run OPF from my res. cd it didnt work and crashed, did you lauch your game thru shortcut and/or preferences? Lets see ah yes, you said you have a cd rom and a cdr or something, did you install all disks with the same cdrom? If not try to install the game using the same cdrom and be sure the instalation paths are the same. Did you remove your OPF directory folder and registry entry before reinstaling? Cant think of anything else right now, im sry. Hope you get it fixed . edit: i can see you have onboard sound, do you have any sound card around, even a cheap one or borrowed from a friend, you could try to disable onboard sound and test it, ive read OPF doesnt like onboard sound that much. Farske 0 Posted July 13, 2004 Hi hi! I have OPF GOTY.. I install the the 1.91 patch then the 1.91-1.96 patch. I only installed using one Drive. I have not moved any folders or messed with regedit. I did a clean install, regrsty, directory, etc. I have a 5.1 Soundblaster card, Ill put that in and see if anything changes.. thanks regards F edit: removed a confusing sentance
