spm1138 0 Posted July 10, 2004 Very nice. You going to do some Mk48's as well?
FerretFangs 0 Posted July 10, 2004 I guess you've got to decide what timeline you want these guys loaded out for. Weapons could probably sorted out as Nam era, Reagan/Bush Sr. era, and Enduring Freedom/Iraqi Freedom era. Reagan/Bush would have some Nam era weapons, and some of the more modern stuff. Some weapons could be considered as mainstays, such as the CAR-15, XM177E, M16/M-203, Reminton 870, AK47, AKM, M60E4/MK 43 These would be used from Nam till 80's-90's. The AK's are still carried today, when in "indian country." But these may be replaced with SR-47's when appropriate, and/if available. Other technolgies, and trains of thought that are being seriously considered and evaluated for SOCOM use include: M4's chambored for 6.8mm SPC. M4 chambored for 7.62x39 ( SR-47 ). M4's chambored for .458 SOCOM, and .50AE, Like the Tromix Lead Delivery System weapons: http://www.tromix.com/Tromix_50AE.htm M4 LMG's like the Ares Shrike: http://www.defensereview.com/modules....sid=228 and the MK 48 MOD 0 Commando chambored for 7.62x51mm NATO: http://world.guns.ru/machine/mg38-e.htm Thermobaric warheads for the M203, and SMAW-D: http://www.defensereview.com/modules....sid=
ExtracTioN 0 Posted July 10, 2004 I try to get in contact with WW2EC Mod they got 2 weapons to choose and carry to work and 1 pistol example you can carry a M16 and a AK74 at same time and in menu you select what weapon to use from pictures I seen it looks sweet also they got a new anim for holding pistol with 1 hand but seals hold mostly handguns with 2 hands So when seals are ready not teaser beta but final I add the 2 guns carry thing to the Seals
Gordy 0 Posted July 10, 2004 but for sniper only and one with the shotgun (CQB).
FerretFangs 0 Posted July 10, 2004 Yeah a breacher could carry a pump shotgun and a "room broom," like an MP5, or M4 CQBR. I've never heard of a sniper carry more than their primary weapon and a sidearm, though. A seal sniper probably could carry thier rifle and a compact SMG, such as an MP5K, MP7, or maybe a machine pistol like a Glock 18C or a Baretta 93R. Depends on how much concealment they need, I think. If they're stalking in a ghillie, they're probably not going to be able to pull another weapon unless they are crouched or standing. Typically, the scout/spotter protects the sniper with an M4/M203 or a full auto weapon. If the sniper has to pull his side arm, something has gone terribly wrong, and he should be exfil'ing to an LZ or swimming to safety ASAP.
Gordy 0 Posted July 10, 2004 I think sniper always goes with the spotter. In OFP would be difficult to carry out a mission with a spotter as the game has it's limits. In the OFP he should carry a MP5sd (M4 sd shorty) as he would not engage any enemy (except for the target) unless his safety be compromised.
FerretFangs 0 Posted July 10, 2004 Only problem is, the MP5SD isn't very short at all. In order to carry it, it has to be carried across the chest. And a sniper must go prone, and be able to crawl. Can't do that with an SMG across your chest. It's painful, you can't pull it fast enough to be effective, and the weapon would drag, which is bad for the weapon. Tactical leg holsters work, but the weapon must really be short enough to fit in it. Which means a pistol, or small SMG, like the MP5K, or MP7 PDW's. Even a suppressed weapon woud be too long to be tactically effective. If the shooter has time, he can attach the suppressor, though.
Gordy 0 Posted July 10, 2004 Well, I know about the reality, but it have to translated into OFP. There should be a compromise. Snipers (seals) don't carry MP7s I think. In OFP a handgun will not be too effective as a protection. Anyway, they'll think of sth.
spm1138 0 Posted July 10, 2004 If the sniper has to be doing both things, why not give him a SEAL-ised SPR with a 3-9* zoom Leupold MR/T on (or some other weapon that can serve at both ranges)? The sniper would have a spotter with something more suitable for close range, anyways.
FerretFangs 0 Posted July 10, 2004 No, I don't know of any US forces the use the ( VERY NEW ) MP7. I have heard of SEAL snipers carrying MP5K's in a leg holster, and a small handgun as a hold out weapon. But that was a tactical sniper, not a ghillie-suited stalker. FerretFangs 0 Posted July 10, 2004 I think it comes down to stealth. That's the primary weapon for snipers, in addition to their long gun. If they have to pull a side arm, they're already in it deep. The exception might be to use a SD side arm to remove a sentry, or take out one or two unexpecting tangoes on patrol. This is why US Marines and Army Snipers carry a sidearm. It's also a weapon of last resort. But in real life a sniper won't go for his pistol, and compromise his position unless the shiznit has really hit the fan. DB-ERAUPilot 0 Posted July 10, 2004 a mk23 with a suppressor would solve the stealth problem and would prob fit well with a sniper load out
FerretFangs 0 Posted July 10, 2004 That's why they carry it.
Gordy 0 Posted July 10, 2004 here is a pic of a SF sniper team. They carry a M82#, which I thought was impossible. Don't know if those could be seals (think not), but could give an idea, how would they look in the field.

Drill Sergeant 0 Posted July 11, 2004 If you read in the sniper books...... A Sniper is not a lone wolf. The spotter carries the extra shit. The sniper just looks after the precision riffle. The spotter gets to hump the assualt riffle, it's also common place for the riffle to have a grenade launcher. Secondly the MK23 is a LOUD gun with the silencer on it. Dry with a silencer a Mk23 reports @ 130 Db, wet you can get a Mk23 down to 122 DB. Thats like a unsilenced .22 still loud. M9's would be a beter choice. Since I bought a clay launcher I didn't get much done today. Luckly I only had one box of shogun shells. Now I'll get back on the woodland seals and the Ch46.... Provided something else doesn't crop up.
