Pesky progress bar

Recommended Posts

Thot to share a problem if anyone has ever encountered this in modelling:-

Problem: For no reason, suddenly your 02 program shows up a pesky progress bar each time u move a vertex, delaying your progress.

Stupid moves i made to solve it:-

1. remove 02 viewer..temporary solve it, but the pesky bar shows up again later

2. Re-install 02....no deal ...same problem.

3. copy flashpoint.cfg from game to 02...no dice

4. remove and re-install my graphic drivers - no go

5. manually tweak directx NOT to pre-render - no effect.

6. Downloaded stinger to remove all worms and virus - no work

Discovery:-

1. Learning from MrFrag, i open up windows task manager ( contl - alt - delete) set to Performance tab to see what could be slowing down my computer.

2. Found out a microsoft app netsvr.exe using 100% of cpu resource - thus making other applications not working.

3. Tried deleting it in Msconfig and end process but it just re-appear.

4. Got online..and strangely..my cpu usage drops to 2%!

5. Got offline...the cpu usuage only 2% and no more pesky bar in 02.

Solution:-

i am not techie...just hazard a guess..netsvr.exe is winxp application for my broadband usuage and searches for files thus uses up much of my cpu...once online it find its files and 'settle' down. ( i always delete my history files once i log off - could be thats why it cant find the necessary files). Keeping my fingers cross it aint a trojan crazy_o.gif

Anyway, my purpose in sharing this to let others know that should u find your computer slowing down - whether in O2, ofp or other programs, just check the task manager - seems to be the best way to find out why ur comp is crawling.

Tks to Mrfrag.

Hm, that's interesting, buddy. I see absolutely the same thing: a lot of memory, a lot of disk space and O2 slows down but there's NO netsrv.exe... It began about 10 days ago... suspicious. And I can other interesting things, not related to O2... I don't know.

Oh yeah, and one more thing: the firewall shows more than 10 trojan attacks in the last 3 days... so what.
