JAP 2 Posted July 5, 2004 My first post in this topic. Congrats to Greece. Its an impressive effort, especially if you count that Greece didn t win a single match in a big tournament the last few years. It s not nice football but it shows that teamwork pays, they kinda play like Belgium ... and count on being on the field as a team rather then a bunch of highpayed stars and some other guys. One nice idea to continue this thread another week ... Lets hear your top 3's !! Most beautifull Goal : 1 : Maniche against holland that brilliant strike from the left 2 : Diving header from Larsson against .. uhm .. forgot 3 : Zlathan's backheal goal after some scrambling in the 16m Most dirty foul : 1 : Totti's assault on a danish bloke ( forgot who ) 2 : uhm .. ( hey 3 weeks is long ! ) 3 : dito Most beautifull dribble : 1: Ronaldo's dribble against the line forgot who against 2 : ... 3 : ... ( omg memory loss ... ) Most beautifull pass : 1 : lemme get back to you about that ... 2 : Zlathan's backheal pass just outside the 16m to Ljungberg 3 : uhm ... Best save : 1 : Ricardo's penalty stop ( because he shot one in right after ) 2 : Van Der Sar with the tips of his fingers ... ball went to crossing 3 : All the saves the Greeck keeper did, without him they wouldnt be Euro Champs, very alert keeper And lastly ... Post your dreamteam from all Euro 2004 players, keep in mind the form they were in, so Zidane, Beckham, Henry ... they were all nowhere ... I ll post mine later, some players that are surely in it ... -DMF- Maniche (POR) -CF- Rooney (UK) -OMF- Deco (POR) -SMF/OMF- Ljungberg (SWE ) -CB- Laursen ( DEN ) -SB- Andy Cole (UK) -CB- Nesta (ITA) So, interested in seeing your top3's and dreamteam ... mine is coming. Cheers
Postduifje 0 Posted July 5, 2004 Congrats Greece, although it was a terrible and very boring game again. A really bad playing Portugal (how come they play average the whole tournament but manage to play good against Holland?) against a very boring Greece. I sympathise with them, being the outsider, but their game is just plain enoying to watch. Shame the final is one of the most boring matches of the tournament. The pictures of Athenes after the final wissle were fun to watch though, and that crying prime minister nice fact: Just a few weeks before the tournament Holland played a friendly against this very same greece, and won 4-0 Congrats again! Postduifje 0 Posted July 5, 2004 Dreamteam is easy: Take the Greek defense, the Czech midfield (definately Nedved), and an attack build out of Robben (Holland), Ronaldo (Portugal) and Barros (Czech). Some English defenders might fit in there, but I don't want to mess up Otto's perfect defense system very late edit: I forgot the Goalkeeper; van de Sar, obviously... Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted July 5, 2004 wait, are they waving the greek or the bavarian flag? They look too simillar! Â Strangely enough one flag makes me happy (greek) and the other makes me feel a sense of pittyness and disgust at the same time (bavaria) Â

mr_rOk 0 Posted July 5, 2004 Hooray for the Greeks. And Portugal got what it deserved, they saw themselves as the champions 90 mins before the end of the game. I actually won 100 euros on a betting game
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted July 5, 2004 The greeks didnt deserve to win. The ref was blind.. there were several fouls that should have cause penalty kicks. Yes and the ref finished the match to early. And did I forget to mention that the greeks and the portugese had a secret arrangement that greece would win (1-0) so during the worldcup greece would loose against portugal. And then I am sure the pitch was badly done in the greek corner so any attack from the portugese was doomed to fail. Aehm... am I getting to Italo-brit now? mr_rOk 0 Posted July 5, 2004 The Greeks played it smart. They were the underdogs, they knew Portugal would be under pressure, and they just waited, got their chance and scored. Portugal is the one which played badly, players decided not to take responsability in going for the shot etc. Greeks deserved to win, they've been consistent throughout the whole championship, they even beat Portugal in the qualifying rounds, who was in their group. So they defeated them twice and you're still saying that Portugal was a better player?

Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted July 5, 2004 I think he's being sarcastic I think you are right! Â BTW. Can someone please tell me how incredibly few goals the greeks had to take during the entire competition? 1? 2?
Ex-RoNiN 0 Posted July 5, 2004 I think he's being sarcastic I think you are right! Â BTW. Can someone please tell me how incredibly few goals the greeks had to take during the entire competition? 1? 2? Conceded two to Russia, one to Portugal, one to Spain. After the group stage, we conceded none
mr_rOk 0 Posted July 5, 2004 You could apply your sarcasm to Portugal. They're the ones who you can make a joke of! btw, I took seriously only the remarks about the ref; that deal and about the pitch, I knew that that was crap.

Actually my sarcasm was directed towards italy and england. In case you didnt get the yoke.. I was making fun of nations that are bad and unsportive loosers. England: "The ref is to blame that we lost" Italy: Â Â "sweden and denmark made a 2-2 deal" Italy: Â Â Â "The ref was cheating" Italy: Â Â Â "the world doesnt want us to win" (eehhrrr, that is not just a rumour, that is TRUE TRUE TRUE)
der bastler 0 Posted July 5, 2004 Quote[/b] ]the other makes me feel a sense of pittyness and disgust at the same time Huh ? It´s not all Stoiber over here I dont mind Stoiber. It is this exaggerated sense of state-pride.... and the Oktober-fest! Yeah, Bavaria, Texas of Germany (analogies put in parentheses)... * cattle all over the Alm (cattle all over the plains) * political hardliners inside (dito) * Stoiber (Bush) * catholic extremists, too (dunno, but GWB seems to be very religous) * Lederhosen are known as "typical german stuff" (see cowboys)
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted July 5, 2004 oh great... State flag important part of local decorations (see flag of Texas, which other state flag of the US do you know?) Strange folk-music still more popular than contemporary music. Citizens proud of "made in Bavaria" rather than made in Germany. (made in Texas) Salt from Bavaria, oil from Texas Houston...Texas. Those two words usually come together just like "Bayern München" State Surrounded by simillar Freaks e.g. Czecks and austrians(Texas near to mexican border). Bavarians are proud of their independant and traditional way of living... so are the guys from Texas Bavaria has its sausages, Texas has its spare-ribs and super steaks ...
