Gordy 0 Posted May 30, 2004 It's my first weapon pack addon so don't be harsh. I intended to make a weapon pack that was customised for a specific unit. A SF unit. They are basically devided into two groups: -woodland -desert There are 4 types of riffles in each group: -aimpoint + regular foregrip -aimpoint sd + regular foregrip -eotech + surefire foregrip -marksman rifle All jam compatible. I think I actually made a good job modelling. I started with Inq and Earl's models, but then decided to make my own. AR-15 that was their first name. As for texturing - I went through a lot of materials and there is a different camo paint on every camouflaged weapon. So I stuck with official camo. I hope Desert may be too shiny - like from the store. I am not happy with texturing. Maybe that is my weak point. Should I release the is all up to U, and Earl (aimpoint sight), and INQ (crossair for scope, bipod). Bas aleady gave me their permission for eotech sight. ah, I made those purly for just fun of making it.
Guest Posted May 30, 2004 Not bad at all for a first weapon. That desert texture is definetly a little too "shiny", but otherwise your work looks promising. Keep it up.
Gordy 0 Posted May 31, 2004 I would be very greatfull for helping with texturing these things. Without changing the models of course. I would welcome every helping hand .

MikkoFin 0 Posted May 31, 2004 Ehh how many polys does those guns have in lods?
Gordy 0 Posted May 31, 2004 It has around 6900 faces
ag_smith 0 Posted May 31, 2004 6900 faces is way too much.
Gordy 0 Posted May 31, 2004 Why? It takes a lot to model barrel with railings.
Hornet85 0 Posted May 31, 2004 woooooow yes that is to big Just took a look on the BAS M4 and thats only 1498 polys so this is way to big
Gordy 0 Posted May 31, 2004 yes, but it is flat. I wanted to create sth that is actual 3D. It has real see-through holes in railin and butt stock. Do suggest that it is a system killer? I am using ATI 8500 and it runs fine.
Hornet85 0 Posted May 31, 2004 this is not flat M4 and only 2250 polys
ag_smith 0 Posted May 31, 2004 Try inserting a squad of 12 guys equiped with these toys and put them in a real firefight and see how it performs...
Gordy 0 Posted May 31, 2004 ok, ok. I am learning. I think the best way is to upload it and then U can see for yourselves. Still waitng for permissions, though.
MikkoFin 0 Posted May 31, 2004 You can use ~1000 poly model at the pilot view and 1st lod, but over 1000 polys for a gun model is WAY too much. Decent model is usually around 500-1000 polys at the 1st lod, then second has 200, 3rd under 100 and last one has only 2 + muzzle - 1 LOD texture from the gun. But even vehicles that I have modelled don't have usually over 2000 polys at the 1st lod and 6900 is freaking HUGE polycount. I wonder how it works if you got 50 guys with those riffles.. But try to improve the textures so you don't need so many  polys. 500 faces and good textures is way better than 6000 faces and not-so-good textures. And photorealistic textures are the best in ofp. Gordy 0 Posted May 31, 2004 I asked OFP.cz to host the file for community to try it. I changed the aimpoint which I did in the meantime and replaced the Earls'. Hope U could use it soon.

aviel 0 Posted June 1, 2004 nice job for first addon, but you REALY REALY REALY need to put that glow away... its like that weapon has a ''glow in the dark'' function
Gordy 0 Posted June 1, 2004 Yes I know. I took it not from a worn out material but a template of a patern, which is obviously too shiny.
Status_cz 0 Posted June 1, 2004 Ctrl+a then F5. Try use sharping(U)... and delete some polys...6900 is REALLY to much! But on first weapon, not so bad
