SpongeBob 0 Posted May 19, 2004 Any chance of getting an customized OFP2 keyboard on the market? There are 2 out for FPS games already (MoHAA and DF:Black Hawk Down) maybe some of you have seen or tried them for these 2 FPS or one of the other titles, and they look like something that would be helpful for playing and make your desktop cool. Example of ZBoards: DF: Blackhawk Down MoH:AA Other ZBoards (mostly for RPGs and RTSes) at ZBoard's home page Yes, I know what some of you's going to say. I know if you're mission making, and in the mission editor, this is not the keyboard you'd want to use. Â If you're playing MP without VON, TS, or whatever, you'd have a hard time typing text to other ppl. Â Some of you would never want to change to something like this after playing OFP for 3 years with a standard kboard... but still, I'd love to have a OFP keyboard, just looking down and seeing a keyboard dedicated to the game you love, that be coolio. Baron Hurlothrumbo IIX 0 Posted May 19, 2004 I'd like it more if it wasn't a stupid design. Keyboards work well in games because of the standard layout - sticking huge gaps into it makes it as bad as a controller for playing games which require more keys. I'd like a standard layout keyboard, or mouse, or whatever, with the same sort of thing on it though.
m21man 0 Posted May 19, 2004 Why not just take a standard keyboard and *carefully* apply camouflage paint to it? Looks nice, and it doesn't cost as much .
SpongeBob 0 Posted May 19, 2004 Why do I have to scroll through a bunch of actions to get to the eject action when I could just press one button on the board?
dm 9 Posted May 19, 2004 Example of ZBoards:DF: Blackhawk Down MoH:AA Other ZBoards (mostly for RPGs and RTSes) at ZBoard's home page Oh man... this is nerd on a whole new level... I dunno about everyone else, but it took me long enough to "memorise" the QWERTY keyboard layout, let alone some half-assed re-hash of it... I agree with Hurlo, keep keyboards standard, saves a whole lot of effort... (Oh, and if you really want some form of dynamic, easy control, I suggest you google for "Shoot" and voice recognition software )
Baron Hurlothrumbo IIX 0 Posted May 19, 2004 Why do I have to scroll through a bunch of actions to get to the eject action when I could just press one button on the board? Wrong. A specialised OFP board would not allow you to do actions without the menu in OFP1. If it was possible, you could do it on a standard keyboard. All those ones are doing is using binds and macros - something that is not really possible in OFP anyway, and certainly would not require a special keyboard in any case. shinRaiden 0 Posted May 19, 2004 I saw one at a shop recently. It had the worst tactitle feedback. It felt like you were playing on a folding PDA keyboard. Basiclly, it's just a colored overlay on a more substantial base, but your fingers don't think so. I'd rather see the action menu get dynamiclly mapped to the numpad. That way you could just slap the key. Mousewheel is faster though, just takes practice.
-=BT=- Matty R 0 Posted May 19, 2004 i always use the mouse wheel. much easyer i like the keyboard the way it is :D:D

MidShip 0 Posted May 21, 2004 Just as a reminder, Keyboard input can be made by voice commands. One needs the Microsoft Voice SDK (40mb) and a program I believe named 'shoot' or so (maybe to download at ofp.info). It can be customized to useraction commands and works amazingly well and reliable after some teaching. The problem is, the OFP commands are sorted by priority during the game continuesly by a resource.bin hierarchy, I guess. Therefore one has to give extra voice commands to step back in the list. This could be overcome, if the resource could make continuesly the current priority list externally available. I believe voice input comes more close to realism then keyboard inputs. Guest Posted May 21, 2004 Most people I know that have tried voice commands say that KB/Mouse is still quicker for games. There are physical reasons for this as well as pyschological. Voice Recognition etc is quicker for some tasks ("copy", "paste"), but slower for other things ("Rocket Launcher", "reload LAW").
Yuzzi 0 Posted May 21, 2004 In ofp2 would be smooth if important-to-do-fast -commands (like eject) could be bound in a key instead of having them in action menu. And the ones that already have a keyboard command (reload-R, binocular-B, nightvision-N) may not need to be in actionmenu. They just hassle things up and make it harder to find command that youre looking for. Things like this are anyway very unpractical to use from the actionmenu. The menu is a cool feature though, but no need to have basic things there imo.
Dem 0 Posted May 25, 2004 What do you think about key combination that will allow to add more animation avaible for a human player (not only for the AI ) ? for example I press W + Q and your character walks bent over like keeping his head below a wall ; pressing K + F will make a my guy take an enemy's head and twist it like a chicken (additional cracking sound would be cool too)
