deathsai 0 Posted May 11, 2004 In the start of the movie, you see the militia leader giving out weapons to his militia after the guy holds the phone up to the helicopters. He himself picks up this awesome looking gun, it looks like an AK-47 but it is a LOT shorter, only a little bit over a foot long I'd say. Does anyone know what this weapon is and if there is an addon for it?
Gordy 0 Posted May 11, 2004 MAP - Marine Assault Pack It's (i think) AKS-74U. You will find different configs of that weapon. Silenced, with grenade launcher, optic sight and so on.
MSpencer 0 Posted May 11, 2004 Yeah but it had no stock at all and it was a 47.
SASR Sabre 0 Posted May 12, 2004 i think the butt is folded
Cpt. FrostBite 0 Posted May 12, 2004 Yes the AK47SU, not a very special weapon and a bitch to fire in full auto. The flash is enourmous and the kickback is really nasty is you don't have a stock. But it looks quite nice. The concept was done by HK on their HK53, a MP5 body with a 5.56x45 NATO round. Only the HK weapon is much better than the AK of course  In the movie I think the weapon was missing the folding butstock completely, but I have to see it again to be sure
Gollum1 0 Posted May 12, 2004 Yes it was without buttstock in the movie, and not only does its appearance speak for being a 47, but I think 5.45 mm would be pretty scarce in Somalia.
MSpencer 0 Posted May 12, 2004 Yeah it would, because the Soviets produced wayyyyy too many 47s, but only enough 74s for themselves.
Cpt. FrostBite 0 Posted May 12, 2004 yep, The russian learned from their mistakes; Never produce so many rifles that the enemy has even more of them than you
jotte 0 Posted May 12, 2004 And since when did filmmakers consider such things as submodells/calibers etc of rifles? Â It was a movie for petes sake. Â It's an AKR/AKS-74U weather or not that would be in the hands of the militia there in real life. You can even see the stock folded to the left side of the weapon as he chambers a round and lifts it above his head.
calm_terror 0 Posted May 12, 2004 actual if you read the book of the Rangers finds a dust cover to a brand new m16 in one of the houses. they actual jsut used whatever they could get their hands on. and ammo is alot easier to get then you think. plus the USSR use to have an naval sub missile station there. wich could easly have been raided forall kinda of ammo.
