you will get a very good gaming experience..imo.

but an old rule still stands: no rig build by mankind can handle ofp at maximum details.

Nice CPU and all ,just that you may not see much performance increase going from a 2500+ to a 3200+.

(unless you plan on running a server)

edit: I see you are actually talking a A64

Things may still run basically the same, because 3d gaming mostly counts on your video card

Just that I think you usually benefit from a video card upgrade more (unless your cpu is hurting) and of course if you already have the fastest video card

Before you start slamming me...heres a chart comparing

Xp2700+ and a Athalon 1000

For some comparision as to what to expect.

I just had this:

P4 2.8 533bus cpu

1024 ddr ram

Raedon 9800 pro

And I was running my OFP at:

1024x768,low quality terrain,3000 view distance

Now I have a Geforce fx5600 ultra and I am using same settings but 2000 view distance

It must take quite the machine to run OFP at 5000 view distance and high quality terrain and be smooth

These are figures for performance settings

I fly alot so I run it where its adequate view distance and stutter free

I don't use AA or AF,most games you can actually see enemies better at lower detail and we all like it nice, but I sacrifice nice for performance

And OFP is a cpu intensive game, especially if you are running a server, also graphics intensive and benefit from both upgrades

Usually true, except OFP is not your normal 3D Game.

OFP depends mostly on memory bandwidth, so you should see a massive performance increase when jumping from an XP2500 to any model Athlon64. This assumes you will be getting a new motheroboard and memory - which it seems you would habve to since your switching to a new generation of processor.

EditOf course, if you're running a very old vid card (like any GeforceMX model) then a vid card upgrade would defintely help.

Once you get up to a Geforce4 ti 4200 or higher, a video card upgrade will do you almost nothing for OFP.

thanks for all that answers ! smile_o.gif

ps my currently video card is 9800 pro 128, and my memory is ddr 400 corsair 2*512. I will not change it.

I do not plan to use it like server, but just play on it,

I like use a lot of unit and addon in OFP in my own mission.

and it kills my 2500+ @2800+, i hope that athlon 3000+64 bit will change it !!

HOLY SHIT! THIS PROCESSOR RUNS OFP LIKE A DREAM!

No joke, the 3200+ outperforms the crap out of my overclocked athlon xp 2400 & my athlon xp 2600 computers!

Try 50v50 tank battles on nogova at 1600x1200x32 bit with no slowdown.

I personally thought when I got the new rig, that the performance gain would be minimal. I was completely wrong.

It's AMAZING. It's like the jump I made from my celeron 400, to my athlon 1200, to my athlon 2400. Even though the clock speed is still 2ghz, ofp goes nuts with the 1024kb cache, and can run a hell of a lot more ai calculations.

How about this:

144v144 infantry ai with a tiny fps drop. Running the same mission on a client next to the server, I get an fps drop just from trying to render all the units...

My specs:

-AMD Athlon 64 3200+, msi k8t neo, 1024 pc3200 crucial ddr, ati 9600xt, audigy 2

-Amd athlon xp 2600+ @ 400mhz fsb, asus a7v8x-x, 512 pc3200 crucial ddr, evga geforce fx5200

-Amd athlon xp 2400+ @ 333mhz fsb, asus a7v8x-x, 512 pc2700 kingston ddr, evga geforce fx5200

The performance boost with the new machine is in part due to the doubled memory, in part due to the sound card as opposed to the onboard sound, in part due to the faster video card, and mostly due to the amount of number crunching the new cpu can do.

New era of ofp gaming! Whoo!
