Cpt. FrostBite 0 Posted March 3, 2004 I can't DL right now, since I'm stuck on the base during the week, but the picture sure looks promising. Textures have improved a lot. Great work!
DeLiltMon 0 Posted March 3, 2004 I'll be downloading this when I get home from work. In the meantime, I;ve just come accross this page with pics of the interior which I thought may be of some use to you
EvilMadcat 0 Posted March 3, 2004 Okay i have testet The position of driver and gunnner is bad or wrong the gunner site under the tank and the driver can not see out of obtics can you fix this???
Bobcatt666 0 Posted March 3, 2004 DLing now, will check it out of the weekend inbetween working on other addons. Trying to finish a number of prommissed models from that time era. Where did you find out the information for making a tracked unit operate, would save me farming out tracked units to get them ont the game. No lessons for making armor that I've been able to find yet.
INVISO 0 Posted March 4, 2004 I know there's some problems about the driver and gunner pos EvilMadcat. And yes, this is already corrected. About informations for scripting a tracked vehicule, PSC helped me alot. Bobcatt666, you can find some more following those links; brsseb's OFP addons tutorials http://ofp.info/brsseb/ Colonel Klink's tutorial page http://www.dc3d.co.nz/Tutorials/index.htm EDITING FAQ Version 1.14 http://members.lycos.co.uk/bloodmixer/tutorial_editing_faq_114.html
hellfish6 7 Posted March 4, 2004 Hi. I just spent some time playing around with it in the editor. So far, I like it a lot. I'll get around to the mission later tonite. First, the bad: 1. Gunner/driver positions, but you know about that. 2. Mass, the vehicle seems to bounce around a lot when idling or firing. When hit with AT weapons, it has a tendency to flip over a lot. Maybe increase the mass of the vehicle to compensate for this. 3. The guns/ammo reload. Are the guns zeroed for any range? By that I mean is there a specific range where if the guns fire at a target, all guns are oriented to hit the same point? I just spent some time shooting up RHS T-55s at 100m, and some of the shots were missing, even though the target reticle was dead center. Actually, now that I think about it, I didn't even check to see if the guns fire individually or, like the MG, are fired as if they were all one gun. Also, the best thing about the Ontos is it's capability to fire six rounds without reloading. Right now, the vehicle has about the same capability as a T-55 regarding ammo and reload times. Are you planning to change this, so that it is possible to fire six shots before reloading? Or firing all six at once? One last thing, did the Ontos come with a MG? I know it had six spotting rifles, but AFAIK, they were all single shot and were calibrated to their respective recoilless rifles. 4. The command icon is a T-55. Did you just copy a T-55 config for this beta version? 5. The crew is Resistance. Maybe make the default the NATO crewmen from BIS or some Nam-era tank crewman (is there one in the Nam pack? - I know those new Nam 113s came with Nam crewmen). Or I seem to recall the vehicle crew of the Ontos dressed just like regular grunts. Maybe use the Nam pack marines for this? The good: 1. Good textures. The look really good in-game, better than I thought they would. What I saw of the interior textures were good as well. 2. Good model. Very detailed. The possible: 1. Outfit it with all those neat RHS/DKM tank scripts, like ammo cookoffs, suspension bouncing, shock dust, etc.
Mountain 0 Posted March 4, 2004 The "Thing" had 4 .50 cal spotting rifles and usually an M60 machine gun mounted on it. As for it flipping over, there have been alot of reports of it being top heavy and easily flipped although some websites dispute this. Btw here are some photos of a guy restoring/rebuilding an actual ontos: Real Ontos Restoration one thing that i'd really like to see is the abilty to fire all 6 guns rapidly and then a delay for reload vs the current system. INVISO 0 Posted March 4, 2004 To Hellfish6. Yes, the mass of the vehicule is slightly low. I forgot the ammo, crew, fuel and stuff in my calculations. For now, as a test I use the t55 gun profil and only on one barrel. I will find some real specs about the M40A1 Recoiless rifle and yes, I will find a way to fire all the 6 guns. (As its suppose to be). I'm not sure about the MG... there is plenty of addons regarding that matter. So, maybe I will simply make one... or use one that is already done. Maybe I will find a script to put either a .50 or a M60. Since, i'm still learning all the complicate process of scripting a model for the OFP engine, I based my scripting on the t55. This will be changed later for a "real" Ontos profil. To Mountain. Yes, I use the site you were refering :"Mike's Ontos restoration". Helped me a lot. Good res pictures. Thank you all for your interest in this addons. It will improve the quality of my future releases. I hope that the intro cutscene was good too. That was my first attempt. Well more to come later. Stay tune!
EvilMadcat 0 Posted March 4, 2004 Can you animat the Back Door Is cool EvilMadcat
INVISO 0 Posted March 4, 2004 To EvilMadcat . Yes the back doors are ready to be animated. I just need to find the right LOD in O2. That's all. I will also add a extra cargo space for another crew member since the Ontos was initially manned be a 3 members crew. But was later downed to 2 to give more space for the 106mm ammunition. Mountain 0 Posted March 4, 2004 While re-reading this thread I started thinking about the different ammo types, by any chance will you be adding beehive/canister rounds to the Ontos?
INVISO 0 Posted March 5, 2004 While reading through many vietnam era's Ontos crewmembers (good one here: http://ontosf.homestead.com/austin2.html logs and commentaries, the beehive shell was a killer. Even on today's modern standard. So, I still don't know how to implement a scattering direct fire round for now, but the OFP community is quite good at building "strange" scripts. God, you could be crapped in that thing! Maybe I'll forget about adding a extra cargo space... hehe
Mountain 0 Posted March 5, 2004 The SEBNAM2 armor has a cannister round, you might want to ask those guys for some advice on implementing it.
Cpt. FrostBite 0 Posted March 5, 2004 To EvilMadcat . Yes the back doors are ready to be animated. I just need to find the right LOD in O2. That's all.I will also add a extra cargo space for another crew member since the Ontos was initially manned be a 3 members crew. But was later downed to 2 to give more space for the 106mm ammunition. the right LOD?? You just have to define the axle in the memory LOD and make a selection of the door in the other LOD's in which you want to see the animation (on the lowest LOD it's useless, so only in the first or first few LOD's it should be present.). The rest of the animation is done in the config. I suggest DL'ing addons that have such an animation and revert-engineer them to see how it's done. That did it for me. adding an extra cargo space it not a good idea. As you said; it was cancelled to provide room for more ammo. So that space is taken by extra ammo now. The thing is realy small inside and I doubt that you will find enough room to place a cargo proxy. But it's your call. If you find the space for it, you could do it.
