Baphomet 0 Posted February 25, 2004 I just saw the news posted on OFP.info of a "new" type of shotgun that now works without restricting you to 10 shots, yet still allows you to fire buckshot. I initially assumed it would be laggy and cause some kind of a pause when spawning a bunch of bullets essentially. It doesn't however. I'm wondering if this could be the real thing? Any scripting gurus out there see any blatant flaws with this addon? Or perhaps excessive inefficiency. It looks cool but I'm not sure if it's going to lag out in the midst of an actual game instead of testing it on desert island by my lonesome.

Baphomet 0 Posted February 25, 2004 I didn't know Ofp.info's policy on direct linking. I didn't want to step on anyone's feet. Sorry.
r1c0cH3T 0 Posted February 25, 2004 Well, I have tried this out a few hours ago and, I was pretty suprised. Works like it says. The shotty has 9 rounds as it says on the diplay instead of the usual 45 bullets for the shotty. Burst came out fine, like it should. Close up, one big hole, and a bunch far away. I did experience a slight pause right after I shot a round, but thats probably just my 450MHz acting up. Only the assigned soldier can use the pellets. Ruskies can pick it up, but it only fires a single bullet. Gotta use the supplied script, but its not that hard. I think that this is a major advancement, or another milestone for OFP. First ever realistic pellet spread.
Messiah 2 Posted February 25, 2004 remember the CoC Mines - this shotgun uses the same principle as the claymore is i remember correctly - hence the slight lag, as with the claymores and the required script
stevevcb 3 Posted February 25, 2004 Very impressive indeed! The slight pause before each round of buckshot is a neccesary evil I suppose, but I'm impressed. Works just like on the tin though, at close range you can put anyone down with a chest shot, but when firing at longer ranges, you're almost guaranteed a hit, if not a kill due to the spread. The inclusion of a verion that fires solid shot (12g. slugs) is also very welcome. My only suggestions would be to make a duckbilled version (not sure if the M590 will accept a duckbill, but hey). For the uninitiated, a duckbill's sort of like a vacuum-cleaner attachment that you put on the end of the barrel which makes the spread of the shot go in a thick horizontal line, instead of a circle, which makes close-to-medium combat in jungle or grassland much easier, as it's just a case of point in the general direction and fire. InqWiper 0 Posted February 25, 2004 I never tried this shotgun but I made my own from the kozlice some time ago. I created 9 glock bullets instead of the single Ball and I got no lagg problem. Im sure people have been playing around with this for a long time but its nice to hear an addon is finally using it
stevevcb 3 Posted February 25, 2004 ...erm, this shotgun's scripted so that it doesn't fire ten bullets all at once, it fires a "real" shell. It sounds awesome too, especially when you come barrelling out of the undergrowth on Tonal with it, punching holes in the enemy troops who just marched past without seeing you

'00' buckshot cartridges. Which as far as I know is the default tactical load configuration for police shotguns has only '9' .380 caliber pellets. That means it fires a pattern of 9 pellets that are almost 9mm in size. Talk about packing a punch. Sure despite the fact that it's coming out of a comparitively looser packed shell because it's a shotgun cartridge and the smoothbore barrel it flies out of. Hence lower velocity. That's quite a force to be reckoned with. This 45 pellet configuration fictional or not would be more akin to birdshot. Which would still be deadly up close, would probably do little more than flay the skin of your opponent at any real range. Still I like this shotgun.
stevevcb 3 Posted February 25, 2004 By "real shell" I meant a simulated shotgun cartridge, as opposed to ten individual bullets fired in a burst, like all the shotgun addons before this have used.

Baphomet 0 Posted February 26, 2004 Port the script/eventhandler if you don't? I know I will eventually try to append this feature to other shotguns that have already been made for ofp. Personally I don't care so much about the origins of a model just so long as it fits my need to have function play a balanced role with aesthetics. It's not super high detail so. Eh. Works for me. Quote[/b] ]Very impressive indeed! The slight pause before each round of buckshot is a neccesary evil I suppose, I've first downloaded this on my 3.2ghz box. No pause while testing it by myself on desert island. I've yet to try it on my 1.8 It'll probably lag though unfortunately.

stevevcb 3 Posted February 26, 2004 Perhaps I should clarify my point. I'm on a 1.8 with Radeon 9600SE and 256mb RAM. The pause it get is perhaps less than a second, but it's still noticeable. That was just me nitpicking, it's still totally playable

That was just me nitpicking, it's still totally playable  i noticed that same lag second in MP and i messed around with the script a bit and figured a fix. now its not perfect. but it reduces the 1 second lag to a 10th of a second lag. and this is in lipany (the lagiest city in the world) in a town with 54 troops. and my and my freind blastin off round after round simotantously no prob. under begine add in "~0.00000000001" or copy and over write the orginal script. but thats all thats changed is that delay. it doesnt affect preformance or look/feel of the script. it just helps the lag <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> ; *************************************** ; Shotgun Script by LSC helped by V_G ; *************************************** _Bullet = _this ?!(TypeOf _Bullet == "lsc_ShotgunBullet") : exit _Bulletpos = getpos _Bullet _BulletSpeed = Velocity _Bullet _vx = _BulletSpeed select 0 _vy = _BulletSpeed select 1 _vz = _BulletSpeed select 2 _Counter = 0 #begin ~0.00000000001 _extbullet = "lsc_shotgunBullet" camcreate _Bulletpos _extbullet setvelocity [_vx + random 20 - random 20,_vy + random 20 - random 20,_vz + random 20 - random 20] ?(_Counter > 39) : exit _Counter = _Counter + 1 goto "begin"
