Munk 0 Posted February 3, 2004 Ah... you reminded me how much I suck at helicopter missions. Intro was nice, set the atmosphere nicely. Briefing was short and sweet but had lots of handy information. I found it hard to navigate along the flight path and I was shot down after taking out two shilka's and three urals. Luckily I like E&E missions There's a bug at the end, the boat doesn't move I'll be playing this mission until I complete it without running away like a little girl
Blanco 0 Posted February 3, 2004 Thx for trying it Munk. & Avonlady (I read your Msg) I know about the bug at the end during extraction, it's fixed now, it was a very stupid bug... Â Â This is my first airborne mission. Somebody asked me to make one because he told me he was a good pilot...so I did. It's a hit & run mission, your main objective is to destroy that Russian convoy, you don't need to destroy every Shilka in the area, if you can, avoid them. The key to succes in my mission is to fly low (below 60 feet) because the Shilka's on the summits in the valley can't see or hit you.(it's scripted, it's a bit easier in a next version) Actually you only have to destroy 1 shilka, the one in the convoy. Then destroy the rest with FARR, but don't hover because there are some AA-soldiers in the urals! And offcourse watch out for trees and forests. I won't update the mission now, because I'm still tweaking balance, adding a win-loose outro, typo's... Also a 2-man coop version of Codename Archangel is planned in the near future. Munk 0 Posted February 3, 2004 Forgot something... There's a village in the north-east (the flight plan runs straight through it), it would be nice to see some activity there. Some Russians have driven there and are asking civies if they've seen anyone. Maybe a few small squads searching the area around it. Is there only one squad that follows you up? I broke my legs jumping down the hills and even time I'd made any distance from the last place I'd seen the enemy, I'd come across another squad. After I killed them I had an easy crawl to freedom. Quote[/b] ]you don't need to destroy every Shilka in the area, if you can, avoid them. Yeh, but when your taking fire from them its a different story... All depends which ural(s) you've destroyed before you crashed. If alive : Two groups will chase you, one group moves to the crashed chopper (and random patrol in next version) In the next version those three groups will be assigned randomly to the urals or BMP2 in the convoy Quote[/b] ]Yeh, but when your taking fire from them its a different story... . True, I'm working on it, In the next version it's different :when you fly above 60 meters the shilka's (*) will attack you, when you fly below 60 meters the shilka's stop firing to simulate some FOW. Good idea? (*) Except the Shilka in the convoy and another on the lowest summit
Acecombat 0 Posted February 3, 2004 Very nice mission blanco perhaps making it a bit difficult ight help ? I found it too easy and the mission was over in under 5 mins , how about a few surprise obj's? Like after finishing th convoy a Ground inf team rquires urgent help from (enemy armor) and then you help clear out the remaining ground peeps?
theavonlady 2 Posted February 4, 2004 I'll be playing this mission until I complete it without running away like a little girl  Big boys don't cry.

Like after finishing th convoy a Ground inf team rquires urgent help from (enemy armor) and then you help clear out the remaining ground peeps? I found it overly difficult. There are enough highly skilled Shilka's peppered about to disintegate anything in their gun path. How was this easy? I would suggest allowing a one-time rearming at an offshore LST ship. BTW, did I say nice mission?
Acecombat 0 Posted February 4, 2004 Avon how can it be difficult? I blitzed through it maybe i am too good a heli pilot , but if you fly low give those four shilkas a TOW each and then FFAR and 30mm the convoy its very easy you know

Apparently my years of experience navigating a baby stroller through a crowded downtown sidewalk to catch a bus does not suffiently qualify me as a Cobra combat pilot. Then again, I didn't have the optional TOW attachment then.

Most people who played the mission told me it's too difficult... I thought that locking the shilka's with tow's from lower ground was difficult, because there's a fair change you miss the target from there. When you try it with FARR, you will be exposed to the other shilka's. But your name explains everthing, Acecombat... ...or you were lucky or you've found a backdoor to complete it easely.:p  Maybe I lower the maximum height to 30 meters (the average height of a tree) in veteran mode , 40 meters in cadetmode. Quote[/b] ]I would suggest allowing a one-time rearming at an offshore LST ship. I don't have a clue how I can do that... How can I avoid the player rearms a second time?  Deleting the ship? Too drastic imo...
bonko the sane 2 Posted February 4, 2004 Good mission and intro, I also found it easy, basically i killed all shilkas from a distance (by popping up the mountain ridge, firing, and back to hiding) , destroyed convoy, and then proceeded to be shot down by those insignificant boats in a very silly way Ill play it again soon. Simple dude have it via radio (once) Just dig in to the official com ref find out the ammo for the Ah-1 and addweapon it It should work i think , and bonko which ship shot you down? Blanco 0 Posted February 4, 2004 I don't think it's that easy... The LST got a default action "rearm at LST" when you hover above the ship and you can't remove that action. it's the same with a ammotruck. There are three boats patroling on the river, just for the atmosphere, I'm suprised Bonko was shot down by them.

Ok it might still have the ammo but then how about using removeallweapon this? on the LST?
Gadger 0 Posted February 5, 2004 Great job dude, I love these kinda missions, maybe adding a couple of hinds and/or v-80's to chase ya back to the lst would be a nice effect. ps. A bigger convoy is needed imo, to really make ya conserve ya ammo.
Blanco 0 Posted February 5, 2004 Quote[/b] ]How about putting an empty LST then? Â Ok it might still have the ammo but then how about using removeallweapon this? on the LST? Nope, doesn't work. Maybe I use the rearm-sytem matthijs used it in choplifter (great mission btw), with that difference that it won't take four hours to rearm the cobra. (not on a LST, but on a FARP) Quote[/b] ]ps. A bigger convoy is needed imo, to really make ya conserve ya ammo. You are reading my mind! I've doubled the size of the convoy yesterday, but I've used only 3 different types of vehicles to reduce lag, because a lot of different vehiclestype create lag, at least on my pc... Blanco 0 Posted February 15, 2004 not yet, sorry I'm working on several missions at the same time, right now I'm busy with Demolition diver (see my sig), but I will update Archangel in the future. I've started with demolition diver in october 2003, and i really want to finish that one first.
