Hit_Sqd_Maximus 0 Posted January 19, 2004 Link They advertised my GF4 ti 4200 as 8xagp, and it was a 4x... and they dont carry the 4200 anymore so I get a new card if I send back my 4200. I have a range of 80 - 120 dollars. So....... GF FX 5600 128mb 8xAGP, or the 9600 128mb 8xAGP? and what brand(I noticed some didnt have GPU fans) I am keeping my eye on this one. Is this the best choice? Here
joltan 0 Posted January 19, 2004 Get the Radeon. From all reliable tests I've seen (and from personal experience), the Radeon 9600 beats the Nvidia 5600 by a wide margin, especially with FSAA activated. Get a Pro or XT, not the SL (the latter has reduced clock rates). Nvidia fecked up the 5k generation of it's cards, the 4k ones were the best bang for the buck at their time, the newer cards aren't. I just got me a 9600Pro, as did (independently) several people in my squad. We all are very satisfied and we all looked around for alternatives (also most of us were former Nvidia users). bonko the sane 2 Posted January 19, 2004 Id say the Radeon, but if u save some $$$$ get the GFX5700 Ultra ,it only costs a little bit more than the 5600 and has a lot of improvements in it.
Badgerboy 0 Posted January 19, 2004 Radeon 9800XT - You'll be laughing. Or you could go for a 9800 SE AIW (TV in and out, plus all the bells and whistles) and softmod it to a 9800 Pro with a BIOS flash. (Has about a 60% chance of success). If it does work, you save a few hundred quid.
Dauragon 0 Posted January 19, 2004 ATI Radeon 9800 XT 256 mb or for cheaper solutions a Radeon 9600 XT 256 mb or a Geforce FX 5700 FX
Hit_Sqd_Maximus 0 Posted January 19, 2004 Did you even read my post? The cards have to be in the 80-120 dollar range because thats what I payed for my card. So pretty much the only choice is between the 9600se or the 5600.
BraTTy 0 Posted January 19, 2004 Sounds like you are gonna get the 5600, I just purchased a Palit Daytona fx5600 128mb which has same specs as the one your getting. Only thing I can say is beware the Palit Daytona (they dont sell it anymore i see),it has bad memory or something,I have to run it underclocked to rid the artifacts
Hit_Sqd_Maximus 0 Posted January 19, 2004 I ordered my 5600, they gave it to me at cost (96 dollars) + I get the 30 dollar rebate. 66 dollars for a 5600 isnt that bad of a deal.

Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted January 20, 2004 Radeon 9800Pro, you can install the boot-software from the 9800XT and a small patch and then you can trim it nearly to the speed of the 9800XT, a stronger cooler is recommended (not expensive).
turms 0 Posted January 28, 2004 IM upgrading also, i was thinking, of options, what would you reccomend? the price should be max 250€ ASUS Radeon 9600 XT 128 Mt AGP   -189 € ATI Radeon 9800 SE 128 Mt AGP    -185 € Hercules 3D Prophet All-in-Wonder Radeon 9800SE 128 Mt AGP -231 € It hasnt has to be radeon at all, but ive heard that radeon offers the best price/qulity.
