killbox90 0 Posted January 9, 2004 well, got some well known cheaters who need some good banning, but the sob has a id changer....but to bad for him, he logged on to my clan TS server so we banned him and got his IP logged....haha loser, anyway, i need to know if banning IPs in ofp is possible.... if so let me know, or link me to another thread or web page that can help me....thanks Killbox
sicilian 0 Posted January 9, 2004 Sorry but the IP won't help you! Most players have dynamic ip addresses so it changes every time he connects to the internet. And NO ip banning in OFP isn't possible.
InqWiper 0 Posted January 9, 2004 Update your server to 1.94. As far as I know there is no ID-changer that works for 1.94.
killbox90 0 Posted January 9, 2004 not many cable or dsl providers changer your IP every time you connect, cause your always on... its not dynamic for him, i know, the only way he will get his ip changed is if he pays a fee to the company (i have my spys)... Â anyway, i know the ofp can't do that itself, i'm looking for something like a script the server can use or a program that blocks ips from having access all to gether... something along those lines after edit: we just might upgrade to 1.94... Metalmalte 0 Posted January 10, 2004 yes ,even with 1.94 there are cheaters and ip changers and so on. i kicked him from my server several times, than he took my ip, and did a lot of stupid stuff on other clan servers, so i got banned there, but i didn't do anything! his/her name was Psyxoman or something like that. i hope BIS will do somethings, against such people! Ranger Giando 0 Posted January 10, 2004 Sorry but the IP won't help you! Most players have dynamic ip addresses so it changes every time he connects to the internet. And NO ip banning in OFP isn't possible. Yeah in OFP it is not possible, but... if you have root access to a linux ofp server and good programming/scripting abilities you can sniff traffic coming to game port and check connected IPs, and compare IPs with info from the logfile (nicks & IDs) and with some clever code you could even find a correspondance between nicks - IDs - IPs yeah I know that's sci-fi, but in really bad cases (ppl ruining the game to others) you can do this. Anyway BIS could easily implement a correspondance between nicks-IDs-IPs, for example logging the IP in the logfile when players connect, together with the other info (date, nick, ID). For my experience IP tempban works, or at least slows down those lame cheaters (They must reconnect). At least it's a good deterrent.

void_false 1 Posted January 10, 2004 Dear Comrades. Please remmember that there's nothing impossible in programming craft. Every defence could be overcome. You always can change your proxy and IP. There're thousands of programs that do it automatically!
Ranger Giando 0 Posted January 10, 2004 Reconnect takes me at most 3 seconds.... On most dynamic IP connections IP address is "recycled" if you reconnect too fast. I.e. you get the same IP as before. But depending on ISP and country YMMV. In Italy ISPs usually have pools of 60000+ IPs, i.e. 80.116.x.y. You can even temporally (say 5 mins) ban all the subnet if you have problems. Just to slow down cheaters/id copiers. You always can change your proxy and IP. There're thousands of programs that do it automatically! I don't think you can actually play OFP behind a proxy, I mean with decent pings and bandwidth Anyways that's true, every system is breakable, but slowing crackers works (actually that's the only thing that works in security)

So i don't think banning whole subnets will work in my case, except i am willing to ban the whole ip range of my service provider (which is the biggest isp here) and myself too and most other players from my country. Not the best idea i would think...
