jaenak 0 Posted December 21, 2003 Frickin' frustrating problem. When I start up OFP it starts like it should but in addition to the OFP cursor, I have my normal mouse cursor as well. Then to get rid of it I Alt-Tab and the mouse cursor goes away like it should. But when I try to Alt-Tab out of OFP to open Notepad or something, all that happens is the mouse cursor appears on the screen and OFP freezes in the background covering everything up instead of minimizing like it should. I can't get the game to start like it should without the mouse cursor, and I can't get OFP to ALT-Tab out and minimize like it should. I think its crying out for attention so it insists on hogging the spot light or something.
Gameer 0 Posted December 21, 2003 The only way I know to solve this problem is to change the resolution of the game/your desktop so that they are not the same. You could also change the refresh rate and the colour depth too, I think.
benu 1 Posted December 21, 2003 You can either move your mouse pointer into the top left corner of your desktop right before ofp starts or you have to have different resolutions/color depths/refresh rates in windows and ofp.
jaenak 0 Posted December 21, 2003 What in the world is a color depth? Is that the 16-bit and 32 bit setting or is that the 256, true color setting? I can find the 16 bit, 32 bit setting, but I can't find the true color setting though. And as long as I'm asking, what in the world does a refresh rate actually affect? I've always wondered that. Gameer 0 Posted December 21, 2003 Yes, colour depth is like 16-bit and 32-bit. Refresh rates are how often the monitor updates the screen image, I take it.
jaenak 0 Posted December 21, 2003 I currently have both the game and windows a 32 bit. If I place windows at 16 bit will it have a big impact on the display quality? Cause I don't want either to display a crappy picture, but one of the two must be different.
benu 1 Posted December 21, 2003 Bit depth affects the number of colors you can display, 16 bit means 655536 different colors, 32 bit means 4 billion colors. Refresh rate is the number of pictures your monitor will display in a second. This may be something different than your fps. If you have vsync enabled your fps will always be your refresh rate or a quotient of it. If you disable vsync a new frame will be rendered when it is ready. This may result in a monitor picture that starts with one frame of the game and ends with another one. Especially when turning fast this results in "torn" pictures. Gameer 0 Posted December 21, 2003 You could just change the refresh rate for OFP down to 75hz - it's not that much of a change and you'd only get headaches if you play for 12 hours straight
jaenak 0 Posted December 21, 2003 And yet another thank you goes out to every kind person here. And another problem beaten by the brains of the OFP community. Thanks, problem solved.
blackdog~ 0 Posted December 22, 2003 Hi - another solution is when you alt tab and this happens is to press the windows key plus L and then click your username in the windows xp login.
