Total memory?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I tried searching the FAQs,  but didn't find an answer to this:

Is the Total Memory value in OPF Prefences always 256 or less? The reason I'm asking is, I've 1024 megs of RAM and it bothers me that I can't turn up the Total Memory past 256 megs, even though there's literally 600 megs still unused on my system... How does the total memory setting work? Am I wasting 600 megs of performance here? ;)

TIA.

Are you running OFP Cold War Crisis?

If so, 256MB is the highest setting.

Try running OFP Resistance and you can set it higher.

Thanks for your replies, guys.

Yes, I'm running Resistance (version 1.90). I'm accessing the preferences from the Resistance CD autorun "preferences" button, and 256 is the maximum I can set total memory to. The operating system does report my memory as 1024 and can use it all up as well, so it's probably not an OS issue (which is XP Home SP1, btw). Should I be accessing the preferences from somewhere else? Other Resistance features like the actual campaign and improved graphics, view distance slider in the in-game video options and so on do work, so I'd guess it's not a botched up install... Could it be a graphics card issue? I have a crappy old Geforce 4 MX 440 here...

I think this is perhaps more a troubleshooting thread smile_o.gif

If you are running Resistance try running the "FlashpointPreferences.exe" <- In your ofp installation folder.

There you should be able to choose more ram.

That did it! smile_o.gif

Pretty dodgy of BIS to hide the Resistance Preferences like that... (or maybe I'm just naive.) biggrin_o.gif

If you go to the codemasters>operation flashpoint thing in your start menu there is "Operation Flashpoint Preferences" - that is for CWC, and for resitsance there is just "Flashpoint Preferences"... a bit confusing at first,

Yes, I noticed there were two differently named preferences shortcuts in there. Obviously my dumb blonde self thought nothing of it. Maybe I should just disable the Windows autorun so I'd actually have to think... tounge_o.gif

But thanks to you guys, my OPF now looks about 500 megs worth of prettier. smile_o.gif
