theavonlady 2 Posted December 16, 2003 ctaud2k.sys Well, that's a Creative Labs audio file. So blaming your SB Live sounds like a good idea. SB Lives are big troublemakers. First make sure you've got the latest drivers installed for your particular SB live card. Second, get another audio card.
Consigliere 0 Posted December 16, 2003 Yeah those bum Creative people seem to have abandoned the numerous (disappointed) SB Live! 5.1 users There aren't any drivers for my model of card on the Creative website... theavonlady 2 Posted December 18, 2003 There...That's what I'm currently downloading... Well, that's not what you alluded to in your first post: Quote[/b] ]Windows XP Home with latest update thingiy installed... BTW, speaking of security, how up to date is your anti-virus software? Also, what Nvidia drivers are you using? Win Update is prompting you to download newer ones. Also, are the all the Windows Updates being offered to you or just the ones marked critical?
Consigliere 0 Posted December 18, 2003 Well I thought my Windows was up to date, obviously not. I downloaded most of the critical updates on offer, except for the ones which I didn't need ( programs which I don't use, don't have installed, etc...) and I downloaded the nVidia software update which it offered. I don't use any anti-virus software
theavonlady 2 Posted December 18, 2003 I don't use any anti-virus software  So how do you know whether some memory-resident pest isn't causing your BSODs? If I were you, I'd run out and get NAV 2004 ASAP. Is the cost of NAV more than the potential damage you're leaving your PC open to?

theavonlady 2 Posted December 19, 2003 *Cough* University student *Cough* Well, rotsa ruck to you! edit: As a student, do you have a computer without a motherboard? Without a CD drive? Without a mouse? You should consider AV handling just as critical. Now go out there and wax the dean's car!
