Any mods that allow opengl in ofp:r?

home world 2 also uses open gl, uses dx for multiplayer, ut2003 has open gl support also a linux client, ut2004 will also. Il2sturmovik uses open gl as default. the open gl 2.0 standard shouldnt be too far off.

MS: Flash Point uses our proprietary 3D engine "Real Virtuality" developed from scratch. Its open object core enables easy implementation of various rendering models. Currently, we're going for Direct3D and Glide in the native mode. (We've had a software engine and OpenGL as well but we haven't found a real use for these two renederers.) The engine uses all features of now a days 3D cards but it scales to older cards as well. There are not any known limits in the resolution - but we haven't tested more than 1600 x 1200 yet so I can't ensure Flash Point will run in 3200 x 2400.

I guess the OFP engine can support OpenGL. I wonder why they decided against it? Limited support for cards, or OpenGL didn't do what they needed?

The Quake engine games (MOHAA, QUake3) defintely support OpenGL - much better than they do DX. Like I said I don't play that mnay games - it's just that all of the major commercial games I DO play don't even support OpenGL. I wouldn't call OpenGL 'the standard' - just one of the two choices game developers have.

Edit: I think the Doom series are based on the quake engine too, right? Dunno about Jedi knight or 'RTWC' (what does that stand for anyway?)

Doom3 will be using the doom3 engine, it might have some stuff in common with q3 engine but it is its own engine, the things people go on about in hl2 like physics are also in doom3, they aim to make everything destructable probly not the levels tho, and the destructable bits destructable and agian. PLus the lighting effects in doom3 would be beyond q3 engine.

The games u listed mohaa rtcw etc all games on the q3 engine are open gl only.

Opengl isn't the standard,Microsoft refuses to support it and thats why its fading out of Windows,the best technology is DirectX right now ,especially with the new cards features and new cards coming.

Don't matter much if the games are written to support opengl, whos writing updated Opengl video drivers constantly?

I would certainly hope that OFP2 will be available for Linux, because while, I'm not using it that much now(need to get around to partitioning my HD), I'd like to use it much more in the future. Linux has surpassed Macs as the second most used desktop OS, and is really exploding in popularity. Just out of principle, I would rather support open-source developers as opposed the the #$%^&*!@ in Seattle.

the open gl drivers come with the vid card drivers, notice if you use windows drivers for your video card no open gl apps will work.

Plus windows isnt the best technology it just has the maket share thanks to its early start. There are open gl video cards out there, firegl i think is ati and nvidia has one to, atis is for budget people the nvidia one is for the non budgeters.
