hardrock 1 Posted November 8, 2003 I have problems with the shading on my model Maybe don't call it a problem, but I just wanted to know if anybody knows how to get rid of these totally light and dark parts It has something to do with light textures, that I know But BIS also did it with their white Cessna, so anybody got an idea? Edited by hardrock on Nov. 08 2003,18:56: SOLUTION: Use the functions Sharp edge ("U") and Smooth edge ("I"). Here are my results, the left one is the old and the right one the new with mixed shading (sharp+smooth): (Look especially around the engine intake) before use of mixed shading after use of mixed shading If you have got the same problem: First use Smooth edge on the whole surface. Then hide everything and unhide single parts of the model, where you have got the bad shading. Then select the very sharp edges (~above 90 degrees), but ONLY the edges (minimum of 2 points) and not the whole face Press "U" to make them sharp. Do this with the whole model. Why? Where you have sharp edges, the face has generally a total own lightning, no matter what the lightning of the neighbour face is Smooth edges means, that the lightning of the neighbour face is included in the lightning of the face itself, so that it looks round and all in one, BUT: if the shading of the neighbour face is totally different, it can be very unlovely (e.g. the gear flaps in the left above example, the neighbour face of them is mirrored 180 degrees, so it's pointing upwards, since it's a double face -> light shading) ATTENTION: This is only a very general guideline, it depends on your model which edges have to be sharp and which to be smooth, so play around with it a bit I hope that helped some of you, if not, you know the PM trick cheers hardrock

SelectThis 0 Posted November 11, 2003 Don't forget to press F5 to recalculate the normals, that will also help with lighting issues. SelectThis
