JZ_UK 0 Posted September 27, 2003 Seems this computer gives me little more than agro these days... Anyway, I've had the same problem as the guy in: http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=33847 but the solution doesn't work for me =/ I'm using Win 98, the latest Direct X and the latest NVIDIA drivers for my GeForce 2. I get the exact same message as he got, however after installing the new DX something different happens, games start, a windowed game appears, never gets beyond just a solid white block though, then it crashes back to desktop and displays the message about not being able to create a 3D Device in full screen... Anyone have any ideas? R. Gerschwarzenge 0 Posted September 27, 2003 Did you try launching OFP preferences and clicking autodetect?
Heatseeker 0 Posted September 27, 2003 Did you try launching OFP preferences and clicking autodetect? If he ran the test for direct3D under display option of dxdiag and it failed the problem shouldnt be OPF related Can you run any other games? what vs of DX9 do you have, i think theres a DX9b version, perhaps you could try updating to that to see if it fixes you prob, dont forget to switch off anti virus program during instalation and reboot when asked to do so. I recomend the same for video card drivers, have you tried removing them and instaling them again, perhaps going back to a older version that used to work. Sry if this doesnt help much, good luck and hope you get it fixed .
Greg 0 Posted September 28, 2003 Just a long shot but here are a few suggestions: o Check your monitor settings. Make sure you are using a refresh rate well within range of the monitor. I have noticed some DirectX programs (including DXDiag) will fail to run if Windows thinks your monitor can't handle the refresh rate you set, even if you uncheck the 'hide modes that this monitor cannot display' option in Display Properties. The best thing to do is install your monitor drivers and not use the plug-n-play default. o If you think your DirectX is corrupt even though re-installing doesnt appear to patch it up, you can safely repair your windows installation. You can also safely re-install all windows installations over the existing one, but you will lose you Application links and settings (neither of these options will destroy your data files.) o Check or reinstall your motherboard AGP driver. Your video card won't function properly without this, though you're unlikely to even see 'Geforce 2MX etc.' in Display Properties if this is the issue. o Trouble shoot your video card. Try it in another system, and try another Geforce card in your system (drivers should work immediatly). Of course you need spare parts, or cooperative friends for this. o Search the net, and check out Hardware specific forums for your problem. It is obviosly not specific to OFP. o Don't overclock youre Geforce2Mx past 200/200 and disable ALL overclocks on your system while trouble shooting.
sanctuary 19 Posted September 28, 2003 I'm using Win 98, the latest Direct X and the latest NVIDIA drivers for my GeForce 2. First , what are you calling latest drivers for your geforce2 ? -is it the latest good drivers for your version of GF2 -the latest nvidia drivers (45.23) -one of the buggy new beta drivers not official ? Actually , the last WHQL certified drivers are the 40.72 for your version of window and geforce 2 , later drivers are WHQL for window XP or only for GF FX cards . Some people will say that WHQL drivers is not something needed , but from personnal experiences with drivers WHQL drivers are always stable on my system , not-WHQL ones are not always totally stable. As i play Homeworld 2 (a game that need DX9) , i noticed with old driver a texture bug when hyperspacing ships, and this texture bug is solved only with official drivers 43.45 , 44.03 and 45.23. but i noticed unfortunately that those 3 recent drivers are not stable everytime and will cause problem sometime, sometime not (a reason that they are not WHQL for my own GF2 and OS). 40.72 , despite not being the latest driver is very stable and is more DirectX9 firendly than the older drivers. My advice on the driver problem -Be sure that there are no virus or nasty thing on your system that can corrupt files -Install one of the good and stable drivers : for GF2 , you have the choice between 12.41 , 30.82 or 40.72 that are known to be stable and good WHQL drivers for GF2 and for a Window 9x/ME OS. Just try those and keep the best stable/performing for your system. Or wait for a next WHQL version for GF2+Win9x when the 50.xx version of drivers will be released officially , but it is not sure that they will be any good for GF2 -Reinstall DirectX 9.0b , if one file is corrupted on your system, this should do the trick ( be sure to have DX9.0b , previous DX 9 version has some bug and security issue with directplay.) You can find the full -redist- version of DirectX9.0b there http://www.microsoft.com/downloa....lang=en Dont be afraid by the redist name or the developpers notice , the version redist is DirectX9.0b you will find this file on game CD that offer DX9.0b installation , the advantage of this is that you just need to download the 32mo file at this URL and execute it to install DX9.0b fully. If nothing work from those hint or other people help, sometime a format then full reinstall of window can really help when nothing more is possible
GhostX 0 Posted September 30, 2003 there is no reason to run DirectX 9.x version on gf2mx! remove it and use 8.1 version 2nd thing is to use older drivers - 12.41-those were stable and runing fine ps. don't forget to use via 4in1 drivers pps. set your agp aperiture size in bios to 32 or less
