Marshal 0 Posted August 28, 2003 My clan has had a lot of problems with ex players coming onto our server and causing trouble - we want to ban them and usually this would be easy as in the past we have just put in the players ID number. But, over the past week I have noticed that there must be some type of new gizmo out where players can actually change their ID number at will, without the need to reinstall OFP. I will mention no names here, but one player came on with an Id number of 12345 and then relogged on with 12345678. Is there anyway of setting up OFP servers so that you can ban IP addresses? kegetys 2 Posted August 28, 2003 A firewall is propably an easiest method, just block all traffic from the ip address... Wont work very well though if they have a dynamic ip addresses.
zinco 0 Posted August 28, 2003 It can be done with a bit of code running on the server. For a dynamic ip u can block a whole set of ip's but then you take the chance of blocking someone unintentionally. If that happened and the person notified you you could allow theirs through. Marshal 0 Posted August 29, 2003 I run one of the newest OFP leagues in the community and have a slight problem which I hope can be addressed in the 1.92 patch. My clan has been having problems with a few ex members where they are coming onto our server and seem to be able to change their ID number at will. They were coming on with Id numbers such as 12345 or 87654321. Is there any way that BIS can include code which can actually ban IP addresses rather than ID numbers from OPF servers? Because banning IDs is now obsolete because they can simply change their numbers and log straight back in. Many thanks, LBB Marshal Law TNT League Owner http://www.tntleague.com
Placebo 31 Posted August 29, 2003 This is an MP issue so it belongs in MP, don't worry Bis see all, they're omnipotent that way Pretty sure this question was asked and Keggy gave an answer of some kind though, so perhaps a thread merge is in order when we get over there
Placebo 31 Posted August 29, 2003 I'm going to merge this with your previous thread, not happy that you posted basically the same thing over three different forums, if you post a thread and think it may be in the wrong place or whatever PM a moderator, please don't start a new thread again and again about the same thing

If this is indeed possible, it would finally provide not only an effective tool, but also a real deterrant against these so called players
zinco 0 Posted September 4, 2003 Ok according to Zap you just type one line in a dos prompt. route add xxx.xxx.x.x mask 255.255.255.255 127.0.0.1 -p The xxx.xxx.x.x is the ip in question. The -p will cause it to load in the route directory and always block that ip. You can also block blocks of ip's by using: mask 255.255.255.0 the .0 will cause it to block all ip's starting with the first three sets of numbers. mask 255.255.0.0 will block all ip's starting with the the first two sets of numbers. What we need now is a program to log ip's that are associated with player id's. Marik is the man for that.
Gadger 0 Posted September 5, 2003 Well thats all fine n dandy for players wit static IP's but i know most UK net users get a allocated a different IP everytime they log on the net, so by using this method of banning people is it not possible that if you ban one person you could also inadvertantly ban half a nation? zinco 0 Posted September 5, 2003 This is true. Don't know what else to say. Its all we have.
Marshal 0 Posted September 6, 2003 I think most people in the UK who are on broadband actually have a static IP. I am with Blueyonder and I have a static IP address for at least 3 months at a time. Blueyonder are also in partnership with NTL/Telewest, so I guess the vast majority of Broadband users in the UK have static IPs that their ISP only changes about 4 times a year. Gadger 0 Posted September 6, 2003 thats because your on cable not adsl, and the vast majority have adsl not cable.
