Best lod setting

Recommended Posts

To get best quality you want your LOD bar in the low numbers. Then go in game, crank up the detail and turn the framerate bar way down. It'll kill your system but OFP will look gorgeous.

EDIT: Damn Typos

Or: Do what Cloney says and then: set the Terain detail on: Higest and you got the damned good looking OFP but beware on the Lag of the century Story wink_o.gif

Because: Poseidon is not made for the bigest detail so even if you have a P5 wink_o.gif and the higest video card well OFP gives still fucking lag tounge_o.gif

In fact, I tried sliding the LOD full right, so that it is set at 0.005 or something like this. I did notice a little slow down in frame rate, but not as much as I expected. The quality is not definitely better, neither. What really makes it is the textures and objects size, when I set them beyond 512x512.

So, really, what is LOD ? I am no programer or modeler, and I still don't see what it is for ?

Not sure if this answers your question but anyways......

Shamelessly stolen from 3dspotlight's Operation Flashpoint tweak guide..

Quote[/b] ]Shadows/Objects LOD. This sliders control the level of detail used in shadows & on objects. Seemingly 1.000 provides the lowest level of detail, whereas 0.005 provides the greatest. The screenshots beneath show the difference in image quality between setting both of these options to 1.000 & 0.005 respectively. In particular pay attention to the buildings.

Not the best of pics but they give some idea.

The LOD setting in preferences (along with the one in options) will alter the distance at which the LOD's will apear, either shortening or lengthening, it cant make the model look better if you are right next to it as you are very likely using the highest (and most detailed) LOD, and obviously the game cant show a better model as it hasnt been created.
