The physics of ofp

Hi,

I'm curious to find out what, and how, aspects of the physical world are modeled in OFP.

For example:

Are projectiles subject to lift and drag e.t.c ?

Do weather conditions, effect a projectiles flight path ?

All I know is that the wind does not effect bullets in OFP1. Bis was discussing wether to implant it into OFP2, but no outcome yet.

Well, I think in OFP 2 they will be enhancing the enviorment alot... with the wind blowing trees around and stuff..

And no wind and weather has no effect on any vehicles. Would be an interesting concept, but nope.

Marek also mentioned something about the flags in the original OFP, how the wind blows the flag, (but I always thought it blew in only one direction)

The rockets are definitely subject to gravity.

I dont know about tank shells but with LAWs etc. they definitely drop so when shooting over a distance aim a little up from your target.

Yes, Tank shells do drop *and* slow down. Pennywise made an arty tracking script work for me. I can fire from the Everon Airport, to Montginac.

The shell arcs, and near the end begins to slow down quite so.

Sun, moon, stars and tides are modelled according to date, time and longitudinal or latitudinal (can't remember) position.

You also asked how they did it: if you do a search in the forum you can even find the code fragment that does it, as Suma posted it once when somebody kindly asked for it...

(when you read the full thread you might even notice, that there is an error in this implementation, but they didn't fix it, because they would have had to change missions and maps after that)

You can setup longitude and latitude in the cpp, WhoCares. If you make it to be e.g. north the arctic circle, the sun will not come over the horizon in winter seasons all over the day, also with OFP. One may regret, that the feature on where the island is located on the globe, isn't used very much.

Yeah gravity is definetly implemented, although I'm not sure by how much.

Looks like air drag is to. But what standard might they use to calulate it's effect on a given round?

You would also think that recoil would effect a round to? At least you can see it effect tanks in OFP.

Wind would make it interesting for sniping, but anything else would be a hard work.

I read somewhere that a round fired from a rifled barrel tends to shift to the right?

And temperature can drasticly effect a bullets performance.

try with a friend, in mp, you on a bike and he in a m113 and crash into each other, guess which one flies away,

The cars and some other vehicles are made of large rubber blocks. Sometimes I take a car out for a bounce across the country side.

Not bad really, since I played a racing game a while back, where the cars behaved like beach balls. Quite obviosly a bit of sphere vs sphere and sphere vs tri action going on.

Well, you can see the wind in the fires. And when you changes the angle of the object the smoke go to the same direction...
