this goes a bit Off-Topic but anything that you say/do/write that is aimed to insult or attack a specific group of people can fall under the anti discrimination law. In this case this is certainly not given. But the word itself is very negative an it's actually forbidden to use it (not by the law but in the society).

While the modern use of that word and others of it's ilk sickens me to the core I would probably go along with using it as the name of the submarine to be historically accurate, as much as anything it represents the era, I'm currently reading from here to eternity and the racism in that is shocking, but seemed to be perfectly common language during that time, of course that doesn't make it right but perhaps helps put it into some context. If you do decide to use the "authentic" submarine name, I would suggest a strongly worded disclaimer in your readme explaining the history of the name and your opinion on the modern usage of the word.

Same goes for swastikas and such like, while being a game I still believe that watering down history is wrong, in whatever form it may take, just my tuppence

Its what is was called IRL. Why not use it? Its not meant as an insult by the mod makers, blame the person who named it neger originally. being politically correct is ok but dont use it to change history.
