SpeedyDonkey 0 Posted June 2, 2003 Here is the E3 Trailer (streaming) FarCry.wmw This one is good as well. Nice animations and all! Judging from what i´ve seein in the first video Far Cry´s Physics are excellent. And a few other things worth mentining: Far Cry seems to have vehicles and i dont know if HL2 has those. The maps should be significantly larger in Far Cry too.

Longinius 1 Posted June 2, 2003 The physics in Far Cry are quite excellent. You can move any object you can think of. You can roll barrels, move tables, shoot lamps and so on. Objects will also fly through the air after explosions, and then react with the terrain the land in (splash, roll etc). Far Cry also has a unique feature in regards to water physics, where bodies float and continue to react when shot at, pushed or other ways manipulated (meaning they will slowly roll over in water, or float towards shore or with the flowing water etc). I am not at all worried about physics in Far Cry. The story however, well, its very basic. But basic works. Sometimes.
SpeedyDonkey 0 Posted June 2, 2003 Longinius, that sounds grate! You dont happen to know what kind of a system it ran on in E3? I know for sure that my current computer couln´t handle this. Oh and here is the story Quote[/b] ]An accidental hero finds himself on a remote tropical paradise, where a madman plays God; engineering various species of enhanced creatures to replace what he believes is a genetic dead-end... mankind. The game is set around 2020 on a set of tropical islands in the pacific. And has a strong tropical-paradise feel, scenic in its beauty, but, harbors a terrible threat. It is a mix of jungle / primal / and next-gen technology. As the player you find yourself drawn into a secretive plot involving secret research facilities with scientists involved in military genetic-research, a secret "security" force of mercenaries, and, advanced net-generation weaponry and equipment. Longinius 1 Posted June 2, 2003 They had it running on four or five machines with different specs, but I dont think any of them were low end machines. I wouldnt want to speculate on the exact specs however.
Tovarish 0 Posted June 2, 2003 To me everything in that pic looks amazing but the chopper. The grass, the trees, the watter ripple effects from the chopper downwash...all look perfect...the chopper itself... well, people have already said it. It looks like something out of a Saturday Morning Cartoon...Hard to understand considering the environment looks so great.

Tovarish 0 Posted June 2, 2003 Seriously, it looks like the developers ran out of money after modeling the environment and turned to a high school 3dMax class to do the vehicles and characters

SpeedyDonkey 0 Posted June 2, 2003 Quote[/b] ] The player has a lot of control over where he goes, what he does, and how he chooses to attack his enemies. This is supported by strong stealth and action elements. Most of the game can be played either way--or in a crafty mix of the two. The game will actually respond to your play style. Because the AI enemies are designed in a systematic way, they will respond very differently to player stealth attempts, making them quite fun to play with. Quote[/b] ]If you see a beautiful island in the distance and want to swim out and see it, go right ahead, nothing stops you. If you want to try to sneak through the jungle instead of walking down the path and into the ambush, be our guest--but remember, the AI know that they can go anywhere as well! It frees the player in a way we haven't experienced in a lot of games. Quote[/b] ]Traditionally, AI characters have been the "victims"--they hang out and wait to get shot. If you run away, they will sort of let you go. In the cases that they look for you, it is usually along a scripted path that you can avoid. Far Cry is totally different--our enemies sense you and sense the environment around them, and once they know you're there, they hunt you down like a dog. It sounds like a small change, but it's a completely different experience from other FPS games. It can really keep the player on his toes. Furthermore, the enemies in our game are totally unscripted--they are built so they respond directly to what the player does. They actually understand the environment around them and know how to use it efficiently, no matter where the player attacks from, which allows us to give the player a great deal of freedom. Quote[/b] ]Even when the player is nowhere around, the AI have little lives of their own. They grow bored, move around, investigate noises, have conversations with each other, and do other things to keep themselves occupied. When you check them out in your binoculars, they could be doing all kinds of things, and you can plan your attack strategy around that. Quote[/b] ]we have the richest sprawling jungle islands that have ever been shipped in a game that we are aware of, which in itself is pretty cool. But we also have some incredible indoor sections as well. The levels are broken up with compounds, buildings, tunnels, old bunkers, caves, and even underground research facilities. There's a rich mix between indoor and outdoor environments for the player to explore. Each offers a different gameplay experience, from shooting a merc from 500 meters with a sniper rifle across a jungle valley to gunning down a few guards with a shotgun in a steam tunnel. In fact, our engine doesn't separate between indoor and outdoor technology, so the transitions are completely seamless. We can have a character in a building looking out a window at a beautiful lagoon, and when he pulls out his binoculars, he can see through the window and into a room that is almost a kilometer away. And if he doesn't like what he sees, he can whip out a sniper rifle and shoot it. It's pretty neat. Quote[/b] ]Save space in your stocking--The game will be on the shelves this Christmas. Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted June 2, 2003 Yeah...remember that.... meep meep whhhrrrrooooaaaaaaammm. hohohoheho... hohoheho... toc toc toc (??? anyone) By the way FarCry is the first real attempt by german developers (Crytec) to enter the Ego-shooter genre. So far german have were always hiding in the niche of strategic games such as Anno 1503 a.s.o. This game will set the roots for future projects Made in Germany. The game looks good to me (and yes in Polynesia, where the game is set, the water is more than just transparent), the characters are indeed a bit 2d ish. But the opponents work in groups and intelligently look for cover (can hide and retreat). I dont like the gun sounds! But there will be so many great games out during the next year...it will face more than just tough competition of established titles. Lets just list them up: Breed, Doom3, Half Life 2, Counterstrike Condition Zero, Duke Nukem For Ever, Halo, Elite Force 2, STALKER, SW-Jedi Knight 3, Team Fortress2, Tron 2.0 Now that is A LOT of competition
