Fieseler fi-156 storch

Well check it out:

TRENCHFEET has released his Fieseler Fi-156 Storch, one MG Version and another ambulance Version. He plans to release a snow/winter version:

I tried this addon out yesterday and thought it was very nice.

You can't use the rear machine gun on it yet unfortunately, but hopefully someone will eventually figure out how to make a rear machine gun possible. The main bug with this is that the AI flys it very badly and lands badly with it on regular runways. There should be an AI version with normal flight characteristics that keep it from wobbling so much and where it lands normally I think. That way it can be used for movie scripts where it shows one landing and a German officer getting out of it. Likewise there may be some missons where the presense of German forces is indicated by that recon plane spotting your position which then triggers German forces to move towards your position.

But as it is, it looks great, has good animations, decent engine sounds, ect... It also flys great and the STOL scripts work very nicely except during landings. But that makes for challenging missions where you have to land near a town in an open clearing in order to sneak in behind enemy lines and either liberate a prisoner or pick up an spy. Of coarse that means you have to play as a Nazi, but still it makes for an interesting mission. I wish someone would add STOL characteristics to that Piper Cub addon that someone made awhile back for WWII missions.

Thats not only political incorrect. Not all Germans were Nazis. In fact the word Nazi is derived from Nationalsozialistische Arbeiter Partei (NSDAP), which was a political party in Germany during that time. So only the people who were members of that party were actually Nazis. In other words, most of the Germans were not.

Membership pf the Nazi party was actually compulsory for members of both the civil government and members of the army, all of whom were forced to make an oath of loyalty to Hitler as Führer and Reich Chancellor, after the decapitation of the SA during the Night of the Long Knives. So technically by playing the game as a German WW2 soldier you would be classed as a Nazi, but this DOES NOT mean that all German soldiers subscribed to the Nazi ideology.

Back on topic! I liked the plane but i agree Miles that the AI struggles to control the plane. Would it also be possible to have a Luftwaffe pilot instead of the default BIS East pilot. The pilots in Gexking's (soon to be released) B-25 look more realistic with noddy hats and goggles, I wonder if they could be adapted?

This version is much better except for the mentioned AI problem. I'm just happy that it's not a rocket gunship anymore. wink.gif

Thanks Major. Yeah I agree it's not that big of a deal as I'm sure there were many good German people who served in the army during WWII and who performed very heroic feats as soldiers and who were just normal people sucked into that war.

Anyhoo... this addon is hopefully only the first of many similar high quality German aircraft! WWII aircraft is an area in which OFP is sorely lacking. sad.gif I'm still waiting for a new version of Mars's C-47 that can actually fly without crashing into mountains and taking the entire area of Nogova to turn.

sad.gif I remember him saying a fixed version was ready a long time ago, but then it was never released I guess because it became part of a mod. But these mods are taking forever and from the current tempo it will probably be a year or more before they are fully finished. sad.gif I wish addons like that would just be released as they're made.

Well the C47 skytrain from mars will not be released as a singel addon but in the Invasion 1944 demo patch so we dont see it soon i gues sad.gif but if you check out the pictures on the invasion pag you can see how pretty it is smile.gif.

membership in the NSDAP was not compulsory except for SS,

The oath of personal loyalty to Hitler was a bit of legal trickery

to bind the Wehrmacht to obey, since there was no way to legally force the army to join the nazi party.

I also had the Ai problem occasionally when flying but it seemed only to appear after time skip was used. Was this the case when you where using it ?

That is an idea Miles Teg on 2 ai versions, when i get time i will change the config.cpp file.
