Realism vs. profit

Recommended Posts

I'm a QA tester and aspiring game developer, and know that to maximize profits, many developers release games with limited functions, and control for minimun spec. PCs. I doubt enough gamers will be willing to pay for a game that only run on the fastest available mchines.

The following are some of the features that are missing from the current OFP, and would be great to see in upcomming versions:

GENERAL:

1. Optimize the code, and improve upon the already great

features of the engine.

2. Add more freedom, and control.

3. Make maps larger, and stop the island concept.

LAND:

1. Create a sequential world similar to Microsoft Flight Sim.

2. Subterranean capabilities. (Caves, Shelters, etc.)

3. Degradable units (Relying on food, water, and rest)

4. Food, and dinking water (Improves health, and strenght)

5. Wild & domestic animals. (Can be killed and used for food)

6. Dimable lights with better occlussion

7. More animations {

Reloading on the run

Running

Swimming

Drinking, and eating

Sleeping

Hand to hand combat (Knifes, punching and Kicking)

Dismemberment

}

SEA:

1. Underwater capabiblities. (Swimming, Diving, Combat)

2. Submarines

3. Cruise missles

4. Depth charges & mines

AIR:

1. Multiple airports and ILS'

2. Maneuverable parachutes, and ability to fire from

I'm sorry to say, but you should post your suggestions in the appropriate threads.

Also, the idea of profit vs realsim vs requirements is completely killed with control panel settings (difficulty and details) smile.gif If done properly.

Don't mean to be a jerk, it's true though.

Cant see BIS failing us. With the limited hype of OFP it always seemed to me BIS were more intrested in realism over profit, and look what it got them: Over a million copies sold. I cant see BIS changing that stance.

This sounds more like The sims or DeusEx.... Other then that i agree with the list

It would be fun to add, and then someone can make a MMORPG mod for it... that would be fun... but it will probibly not happen...

So this begs the question, why is this thread not locked? smile.gif Are we not meant to post suggestions/requests in the proper threads anymore? Just send out a thread for each of us with our suggestions?

Im not. All im saying is that this wouln´t suit Operation Flashpoint. Realism is great but you´ve got to have some kind of a balance. And yes, maybe some people could make a mod or something.

Sorry, I had a typo in my post which really made it confusing. Try now.

Let me explain though; do you see anyone else making a thread to post all their suggestions on various topics? No, we follow the rule to post suggestions in categories.

OFP-Resistance is my all time favorite title for the FPS genre. I've logged many months playing and modding the game. However, the function has to remain true the player's expectations of combat and physics.

For example: Heavy aircrafts bouncing on the ground like beach balls are likely to cause the player to regard the object as fake. Civs and soldiers never needding rest, food or water (I know, unlike The SIMs). Unable to engage in hand2hand combat, and never getting dismembered by explossions or flattened by heavy objects. This all will of course forfeit the purpose of any complete war simulator.

Before OFP, there was Delta Force 2 by Novalogic. Good game, but still limited to land and water. However paratroopers are able to maneuver, and fire weapons on decent. They can also swim, dive, and use weapons under water.

I'm certain that BIS is going to kick ass on the upcomming version of OFP, I just hope they don't just add monstrous textures, and gargantual graphics. Egos are for fools, and fools never evolve. If something works for another, why not use it as a template for something even better.

If nothing else, just release a better engine, and we'll do the rest...

Obviously you're missing the point. Soldiers don't have a personalized medic with them at all times, maybe the ones from Beverly Hills do, biggrin.gif

My suggestion calls for the use of other healing options, excluding voodoo ofcourse. wink.gif

I know it can be done if the developper is not as stubborn and narrow minded.

Perhaps sacrifice some land polys to do so.

indeed bn880's post is what i think of this thread too.

the operation of BIS is their own prerogative, so although they would appreciate your concern, this section of the forum is about suggestions for individual aspects of OFP2.
