"moldable" landscape

I know of another game (Soldner?) that is doing this. I think it would be great to be able to blow a chunk out of a mountain with a bomb or tank shell. plus you could dig trenches, maybe boobie traps.

Yeah, well atleast a hole when there has been an explosion.

Deformable terrain isn't really realistic. Yes, you'll get some bumps and holes, but I don't think it's quite so drastic as Soldner is making it out to be. You'd have to see shelling the likes of which hasn't been seen since 1917 to have terrain as badly damaged as I've seen with that game.

That said, I think it would be nice to be able to knock down all kinds of trees (especially if OFP2 is in Vietnam - units in the jungle would routinely use detonator cords or C4 from claymores to blow down trees to make a landing zone).

Buildings that take damage realistically, not collapse into a pile of polygons like they do currently would be nice.

But don't forget about tunnels. During the war when they were found most often they'd be desyroyed. If they were close enough to the seurface they'd make a sizeable divit. Now an artillery shell or tank round landing ontop of or close to a tunnel could very well collapse it.

there needs to be trenches cause in any war from the civil war to Operation Iraqi Freedom there has been trenchs.

I'd love to see trenches. Maybe, and this is my talking out of my derriere here with a quick idea, you could make a section of a trench or a fighting position like a vehicle.

You'd tell your squad to enter the trench, just like you order them to board a truck or helicopter, but instead of sitting down, they are placed in a proper firing position and are able to utilize their personal weapons. This idea would require the ability of passengers (which is essentially what you'd be in this trench) would have the ability to fire from vehicles. Loading a squad into a trench like a vehicle has several benefits in my opinion:

1. Not having to worry if your unit is not quite in the right spot. I think we've all dealt with troopers who are ordered to one place, but they're just a meter or two away and won't move right to where you want them to be. In the case of a vehicular trench, all your troops will be in a proper firing position without you having to worry about getting them in there just right.

2. You could place entire forifications relatively easily. It's just like adding a mechanized infantry group and telling them all to board their vehicles. The only thing you'd have to worry about is orientation and placement vis-a-vis the next unit over.

The only downside I can think of at the moment:

In the current way that OFP works, you can only exit one unit from a vehicle at a time. I can imagine a scenario where you are being overrun and you want your squad out of the entrenchment fast, but they are only popping out once every three or four seconds, and getting shot quite rapidly by doing so. An immediate, total group exit would be necessary.

Bit of a dodgy way to do it, but if I want ai out of a vehicle fast, I drive slowly and tell them to eject. Below ~20 they dont get hurt.

So maybe if the trenches could have eject enabled at all times?

Doesnt the INV44 mod have trenches and shell scrapes?
