Jackal326 1181 Posted January 6, 2004 In an effort to reduce file size, I am beginning to use 'HiddenSelections', so I can make several unit variations from one model, instead of having one model per unit variations, as has been the case with v1.0 and v1.1. (ALL of the Jungle recon units, come from the same model). I have had to make 4 models for Woodland/Desert recon though, as the Gasmask and NVG units, use varying animations that I do not wish to mess with by making one unit out of them. This has cut the Woodland/Desert unit models down from 12 each, to 4 each, and has really improved on filesize. I am in the process of including this idea in the SRT units themselves, which are the only units remaning that dont include this feature (in doing this they are looking 10x better than before). I will post more screenshots ASAP (sometime over the weekend probably), but for now, here is an early image of the new and improved Special Reaction Team base unit: http://sjb.ofpr.com/srt2/Units/Images/srt/SJB_SRT2_EarlyHS.jpg ...and another screenshot, this time the team are relaxing as they are placed on stand-by. http://sjb.ofpr.com/srt2/Units/Images/srt/SJB_SRT2_Relax.jpg
Jackal326 1181 Posted January 8, 2004 I've just completed re-scaling the M4A1s, and they're looking ten times better than before, once I re-scale the M16A2s tomorrow, that will be the weapons completed (apart from BETA testing of course). Two new screenshots: The first is of the rescaled M4A1 (as mentioned above): http://sjb.ofpr.com/srt2/Weapons/Images/SJB_M4A1_NewRescale.jpg The second is of the new and improved M16A4 Aimpoint which is less box-like now: http://sjb.ofpr.com/srt2/Weapons/Images/SJB_M16A4_HiPoly_Aimpoint.jpg
Jackal326 1181 Posted January 11, 2004 A common question I'm often asked is, "Will the units feature increased armour characteristics for their body, due to the inclusion of the new flak vest?" Well, the answer is yes, but only for the units that actually wear the vest i.e. Woodland and Desert Recon, as well as the Special Reaction Team Units. Jungle and Winter recon will not, as they dont feature the vest model. Just the clear things up
Cpt. FrostBite 0 Posted January 11, 2004 That new muzzle flash looks very (VERY!) promising. But I think you should make it more transparant (spelling?). In RL the muzzle flash is hardly visible. Of course ingame we like to see a muzzle flash because it looks good, but a bit more transparant will make it more realistic and better looking (I think). Will you use (JAM like) tracers on your weapons? That would be realy cool. (Or will you simply use JAM as your primary ammo)
Jackal326 1181 Posted January 11, 2004 The tracers will be very similar to that featured in JAM, as will the sounds. This is to keep consistancy for when players/AI use the JAM magazines...both SJB M16 magazines and JAM M16 Magazines for example both sound the same.
Jackal326 1181 Posted January 13, 2004 In my continuing work upon the units, I've updated the S.R.T. Night Entryman and added an XML arm-patch to the units, which is exactly how it sounds, its an armpatch that, during MP games, displays the players XML image (if they have one set up) at the top of their left arm. Here are two screenshots I just uploaded: - First is of the XML Patch (for comparison purposes, the XML Image is the same as my forum avatar): http://sjb.ofpr.com/srt2/Units/Images/misc/SJB_XML_Armpatch.jpg - The updated Night Entryman: http://sjb.ofpr.com/srt2/Units/Images/srt/SJB_SRT_NightEntry_v2.jpg
Jackal326 1181 Posted January 20, 2004 Due to rather major modelling issues, the units are being re-made from scratch which has obviously impacted upon the release window of mid-february. I will work on them as fast as possible, but without rushing them to the point I make stupid little mistakes. On another, lighter note, I've re-started work on the Jeep Pack which was dropped for some time. Early screenshots can be found at http://sjb.ofpr.com/srt2/Vehicles/images
frk19732001 0 Posted January 21, 2004 sad to ear but i'm sure you'll manage it good luck to you

Early screenshots can be found at http://sjb.ofpr.com/srt2/Vehicles/images Wow! I love those jeeps, I have wanted some jeep varieties even since all those hummers started showing up. I hope you include a version with a gun mounted on the roll bar similar to the Danish GD-9's. As usual, really good work and I am sad to hear about those lost models, keep at it! Jackal326 1181 Posted January 21, 2004 The reason the old models have been canned is due to the the crotch area and the tops of the legs. As the legs are a seperate part of the body, the top areas of them clip though the crotch area. This is best seen on http://sjb.ofpr.com/srt2/Units/Images/desert/SJB_DesertRecon_M16A2.jpg. The good news is I've begun remaking them, and they're already looking really good, and it shouldn't have as big of an impact upon the release as I first thought (but an impact all the same). No screenshots of the new versions yet, as its still early days. Several other jeep variations are planned, so I doubt you'll be disappointed GOOB.
Cpt. FrostBite 0 Posted January 21, 2004 aah.. OK! Glad you decide to change it. Although it mustn't have been easy to simply trow away all your work (well, at least most of it). At least the weapons are still fine. Those jeeps look very fine. I like this one a lot! http://sjb.ofpr.com/srt2/Vehicles/images/SJB_Jeep_RECON_O2.jpg weren't you also working on a HMMWV?
Jackal326 1181 Posted January 21, 2004 Yes I was also working on some HMMWVs, but they've been placed on hold due to the fact you can fire through the enitre rear end for no apparent reason. I might restart work on those soon though to see if my new found knowledge can help figure out the problem since I last worked on them.
