Subgrouping

Recommended Posts

Just as the title says. Subgrouping: Is it possible to command the leader of a squad so in theory you could control 12 squads. Even more, actually if one of them commanded 12 squads, and you could command him, etc.

The question is: how is it done? I have heard speakth about it, but never known how it was done. Do you assign the AI a group but in the init field "West1 = groupThis" ?

p.s: how do you make spawned (createVehicle) AI join your group?

I have no experiences in both matters, and I would like to thank anybody who replies in advance.

When you spawn a vehicle, you have to spawn an empty vehicle and then spawn soldiers and set the soldiers inside the vehicle. So whatever group the soldiers are, that's what the vehicle is.

You can only belong to one group, but there are some tricks I bet you could do, like have other groups follow one of your soldiers....and do what he does. I personally have never tried any of this. You might what to look at the Chain of Command or what they have over at OFPEC.

About the subgroup thing, as Doolittle said, check out Chain of Command. It's not exactly what you want from what i have heard but seems to be the closest thing there is....

BratZ..hehe.

OmniMax..sorry I thought you were wanting to do vehicles because you mentioned createVehicle.

Doolittle

OmniMax I hope you will be out of questions soon, or maybe put more research time into your question before you post.  OFPEC is a GREAT place to look around and learn how OFP works.  Hmm...I don't mean to sound mean here.  Your enthusiasm is great/contagious.

I have done enough research.

It is possible and I know it can be done.

The question is how.

Hopefully BIS will make an easier way to do so. And with that, more than just 3 sides (custom factions). Would be extremely useful. But not required.

But I answered your question and it is possible. Using the CoC you can control like 10 squads or something.

Seems their website has gone so advanced now I can't find much information regarding its initial design.

Hard for me to explain as I havent used it in a while but here is a easier site:

http://www.ofpec.com/editors/CoC.php

And some description:

The Chain of Command (CoC) Mod has been designed to give you a new, strategic OFP gameplay experience.

Here at OFPEC we fully support the CoC, and are proud to host Spinor's Command Engine, the backbone of the mod. We see it as a fantastic way to extend the game into the realm of low level strategy, and open it up as a whole new genre.

This command engine allows a player to control large numbers of soldiers across several groups, even if they are in vehicles or helicopters. The player must coordinate their forces to achieve an objective, and use tactics to defeat the enemy rather than force of numbers (although that always helps)!

Hi OmniMax

Yeah we are live and work in the land of OFP Script and our only common language is Scriptish.  biggrin.gif

Sorry if some of the site is very technical. Three sources:

1) Scripting gurus if you look at the team there are quite a few of them in the CoC plus several associates.

2) Military and ex military personel most of the team are or were in the military

3) My bad marketing speak (for which I apologise and I will, when we have our forum back up atempt to remedy)

As to Native language there is a mix. I am from The Peoples Republic of South Yorkshire in England others are German, Swedish, Dutch, Polish, American, Australian, New Zealand, South African, Canadian etc.

If there is anything you need tranlating from scriptish when our forum is back up just ask.

On the amount of squads the current Command Engine can direct control: It is 7 platoons of 5 squad in other words 35 x 12 soldier squads. Any platoons will move as a platoon if set to do so or each squad in a platoon can be moved individualyand micromanaged We are in the process of building CE3 and producing several new OFP inovations in partnership with several addon makers.

Kind Regards walker

For the CoC
