Germans missing in algeria

Recommended Posts

could be a combination of accidents or hijacking or murder for the money and cars. Who knows. There are indeed extremists in this region and this makes it a bit tricky. We are talking about huge desert regions here. If they were kidnapped it´s a bit strange that there was no ransom demanded or public informed. I mean february - > april is quite a long time. I think they were killed and robbed.

they're dead ....

what the heck were they doing in southern Sahara far from touristic routes ?

several possibilities :

- they crossed the path of a bunch of smugglers/drug dealers and have been :

- killed

- mugged and raped in the middle of nowhere

- both

- they crossed the path of the islamic guerilla and have been

- considered as infidels , tortured and then killed

- considered as spies and same as above

- considered as governmental representatives and same as above

- they crossed the path of the army and have been :

- executed for being spies

- executed for being terrorists

- executed for being where they shoudln't have been

- arrested and still in detention in some algerian army outpost

- they stepped in guarded governmental area near secret installations and :

- got shot on sight

- have been arrested , convinced of spying and executed

- they stepped in radioactive former-french nuclear test-zone

- they got lost in the middle of nowhere and died of dehydratation

- they had a car accident

algeria is not a place i would spend my hollydays in , its got a nice littoral and all , but once you get over the bled and the cultivated regions it's mainly a desert with over-violent governmental forces , islamic extremists and criminals of all kinds

and believe me , i know what i'm saying , my father has been here during the independance war , and i've been there to for joint "work" between french and algerian governments

most people here are nice but still , the insecurity feeling is huge in algeria

i suspect the last two...

CNN also had an article about this, and my guess is that they got lost and died to dehydration.

It´s pretty stupid to go alone intoi the desert there. Some people should read more books and newspapers before they want to have an unique life experience. I don´t feel sorry for them. Either they were stupid or arrogant or both.

never ever leave frequented touristic routes and keep all your ID papers as near as possible , always keep the number of your country's embassy in algeria on you with a cellular phone around

Background info:

Right now there are 4 algerian men facing court in germany. They have been arrested because they planned a bomb attack here in germany. There seem to be links to AQ.

A lot of people here think that the german tourists who have been kidnapped are used to free the 4 algerian terrorist suspects from jail.

It´s a bit surprising that some of the tourists are "found" during the presence of the german foreign minister in Algeria.

Looks like the government paid some money for their release.

It´s also interesting that the chief of german BND is in Algeria at the moment.

There are suspicions that some of the tourists have been taken to Mali.

EDIT: Germany probably will send GSG9 to Algeria to free the remaining hostages.
