Battleship wisconsin

Recommended Posts

I finally fufilled one of my dreams and visited a Battleship. Thought some of you might enjoy the pics. What's interesting about the Wisconsin compared to most of the other Battleships is that it's still owned by the Navy. So you can't go inside as it's being dehumified. Basically if they got the call they could have her back out to sea within a year. Anyways, pics are here:

My visit to the USS Wisconsin

Downtown Norfolk Virginia. You can actually see the USS Preble FFG-59 docked behind the Wisconsin as they were having a change of command ceremony. The Preble wasn't open for touring though :\

Organizations and states. I know the New Jersey is owned by the state itself, the way it was explained to me was that the rest were owned by cities or non-profit organizations.

Battleships

such a good concept really isn't it

Lets build it big

Lets put the biggest heaviest guns we can on top smile.gif

alas, being able to do something with a cheap shell just can't compete with being able to do something with an expensive unreliable slow (compared to a shell) missile these days (apparently smile.gif )

i touched some hinds and migs in moscow 10 years ago. they still had the dirt from afghanistan on them. tounge.gif

i think the soviet gouvernement didn't know where to put all the material and equipment after they left afghanistan and just put some of it into a museum without even cleaning it. biggrin.gif

i'd also like to see a big battleship, but germany's battleships are on the ground of the sea. crazy.giftounge.gif

Ah yes.... the Intrepid..

I've been there about 4 years ago. That ship is massive!

I've also seen a T-72 and a BMP which they captured from the Iraqi's.

Next ship i want to see is one of those massive battleships like the Wisconsin.

If you ever marry her, that won't leave much room for your future mom-in-law's nickname.
