Shashman 0 Posted February 25, 2003 Just browsing aviation sites last night, and thought that the AN-2 would be a perfect addition to the Soviet/East fleet of aircraft. It's a transport aircraft, the biggest biplane in the world, and a very good aircraft. Were the North Koreans to invade or attack South Korea, one of the first actions would be  special forces sabotaging airbases and other military facilities. They would be inserted by parachute and the aircraft they would use would be the AN-2 Colt, which is perfectly suited to this role as it is actually hard to see on radar because of it's construction. Well how bout it? Would anybody be interested in making or attempting to make this aircraft? I know I certainly would but I have absolutely no experience addon making.  Specifications : Country of Origin: USSR, Poland   Role: Light-transport (10 equipped troops), general utility  Similar Aircraft: U-6A Beaver, OV-1 Mohawk, OV-10 Bronco  Wing Span: 59 ft, 8 in (18.19 m)  Length: 41 ft, 9 in (12.75 m)  Height: 4.1 m  Weight:  3330 kg - empty 5500 kg - maximum takeoff 5800 kg - maximum takeoff [An-3] 1500 kg - maximum payload 1800 kg - maximum payload [An-3]  Engine: 1xASh-62 IR, 985 hp 1xTVD-10B, 959 hp [AN-3]  Maximum speed: 250 km/h  Cruising speed: 220 km/h / 220-260 km/h [AN-3]  Range :  1025 km - with maximum fuel 300 km - with maximum load  Service Ceiling: 5000 m  Runway :  650 m - dirt takeoff-landing strip 650 m - dirt takeoff-landing strip [An-3] 400 m - surfaced takeoff-landing  Armament: Usually none  Crew: Two   User Countries: Afghanistan, Albania (Y-5), Angola, Benin, Bulgaria, Cambodia, CIS, Cuba, Germany, Iraq, Laos, Mali, Mongolia, Nicaragua, North Korea, People’s Republic of China (Y-5), Poland, Romania, Tanzania, Vietnam

Shashman 0 Posted February 25, 2003 hehe...At Paris airshow 97 (I think) an AN-2 flew in formation with the smallest plane in the world. I can't remember what it was called but it took off from the roof of a Mitsubishi Shogun, the Mitsubishi speeds down the runway then the clamps are released and the tiny thing takes off.LOL..Was crazy : The biggest biplane in the world flying in formation with the smallest plane in the world..Bet the pilots were shitting themselves
Tovarish 0 Posted February 25, 2003 *insert dumb comment here* I'd love to see an An-2. I've flown in one and been in the cockpit .
AXE 0 Posted February 25, 2003 It says "the biggest biplane" not "the biggest plane"

Shashman 0 Posted February 25, 2003 Oi!! You think you're gonna get away with it that easily!Put that post back! LOL For the record, Tovarish thought I said AN-2 was biggest plane in the world, "correcting" me by saying it was the AN-225.

crewcutkid 0 Posted February 26, 2003 Shashman Did you read Proud Legions? The North Koreans Land behind enemy lines in Colts.... -Crew
Shashman 0 Posted February 26, 2003 Hmm..I definately read it somewhere, but I just can't remember where.I think it was in a reference book, definately not fiction, I mean it seems pretty obvious they'd use this method, as the Colt has fabric covered wings, and I think it even has some wooden parts (although I am not sure about this) making it a little harder to be detected by radar. Hmmm...*thinking hard* hmmmm...nope..it's gone...Ah well...
Ludovico Technique 0 Posted February 26, 2003 Light transport aircraft able to carry a squad of troops? Best idea I ever heard of. Word to the wise on these sort of things though, realism is good, but playability is much, much more important. The Antonov addon rocks the world because the AI can fly it easy and taxi it. crewcutkid 0 Posted February 27, 2003 Yeah, Proud Legions is a fiction book about a second Korean war, but it was written by a Pentagon Army officer who was once stationed in Korea.... -Crew
