ECL Barracuda Gunboat Released!  2-22-03

After months of work, our Barracuda Gunboat is finally released!  

Description of the gunboat:

A large, heavily armed and armored Gunboat.  It has full weapons capabilities against all Air, Armored and soft targets as well as an animated floating mine deployment device!  With a top speed of 105+ it also holds a total of 19 people including the crew, plus a large amount of weapons and ammo!!  It's also fully compatibale with our TAAB addon!  E-mail webmaster@everoncartel.com with any questions about the boat (after you've read the readme) or go to our forums!

Details:

High Cargo Capacity (16 + 3 man Crew)

High Camoflauge Value

High Speed Capability (105+)

Custom Animation for mine deployment device

Working floating Mines!

Agressive threat modeling

Custom Engine Sound

2 types of ammo for main gun (ZSU cannon and .50 cal MG)

Gunner is well protected

Detailed Commander View

Ability to carry large weapon loadout (comes with East weapons inside)

"Gatling gun" barrel style and effects

Does not move well on land (like it should be, it's a boat!wink.gif

An important thing to note is the readme and example mission included in the zip.  There is a small command necessary in an init.sqs for the mine function of the boats to work correctly.  There are more details in the readme.

Because we used Blue Tiger Stripe Camo...

Also, we brightened up the screenshot a bit. (It was very dark before) It looks slightly different in-game.

yeah, make it blue, not turquoise..... and dont play with the britness feature in photoshop cus it makes ur addons look different from how they really are...

yeah i was giving a bit of advice, but telling you it was quite important at the same time, changing screenshots gives people a faulse look at your model/addon so i advise you dont edit them.

I've tried it out, its pretty cool except the gattling gun sounds to regular, it should be like the dkm commache one, or the BAS Chinook sound. But other than that its fine! tounge.gif

Thanks!  As far as the sounds for the gun goes..  They are the default game sounds..  I've yet to find a "gatling gun" sound that I would prefer to use at this point.  (Wish I could just go to an Apache manufacturing facility or summin and record one in RL...but I don't have clearance) wink.gif

However, if anyone has a better sound for our cannon than the default game sounds that we can use, by all means, please send them to us!

Also, An important note:

I just found a very slight error in the addon.  We forgot to remove 1 line of code from a script.  This line of code could generate an error message when you choose to deactivate the mine deployment if you got the version before this post.  

I have fixed this error and uploaded the corrected version to the same link.  wink.gif

ehm... I really don't like the textures, it looks like you took one big picture and wrapped on the model.

sorry i didnt have the time to try your addon, as i am currently working on a project, heck! i didnt even have time to download anything made since jan.:p

However i think its a good idea on the floating mines and the gatling gun and i will take your word on it its as powerful as u say, lol!

Just a suggestion:- there are only 2 types of sea in ofp - coldwar and resistance. Most are at resistance, so why not use a texture of the sea as the texture for your boat? With that texture, user controlled air and land units will have a problem distinguishing u from the sea.... u can lay in wait and then rip them apart with your gatling guns. Furthermore your boat will be more unique as most boats of ofp are in drab grey or green.

And if u do have time, perhaps u might wanna add some shading to the boat to make it more photo-realistic? Most real objects have shades but unfortunately, cpu resources are limited to shade it, so we got to apply a few tones of darkness or brightness on the object to make it seem real.

To apply the shade, just imagine the sun at 10 am and determine yourself which part of the boat will receive direct sunlight and which part will receive no light and be dark shaded. Of course once ingame some folks will say the shades are in wrong direction but most of the time, they will either be too busy driving the boat or shooting it down to notice where the sun is. wink.gif
