For people who want things done yesterday

Okay this is not a work in progress or anything but is related to it.

I have seen alot of posts put up recently by people complaining about things not being released fast enough or what ever. I wish people who do crap like this would just shut up. Here are a few reasons why:

1. Mod/Addon makers have lives outside of the game. As much as I would like to be able to devote 24 hrs of my time to the game, I can't I have other priorities to commit too as well. I'm sure others who make addons and mods do as well, kids, work, school and spending time with family etc.

2. Sometimes there are game engine limitations and restrictions. Sometimes technical glitches come up with addons due to game engine problems.

3. Its free! I would understand getting angry if you paid for it in advance or they were making money from it and did not live up to their promises. But these people are doing this in their spare time and giving it to you for no cost, they can release it when ever they feel like it.

You re partly right.

But ..... don t put the candy infront of a kid !

If you dont want questions about how far gone an addon is why post pics or previews in a forum confused.gif

If you ask me, most addonmakers just ask for it themselfs wink.gif

And you cant help that people ask where the harrier from Klink is when they saw that last pic wow.gif

Very true. Maybe a few teaser screenies a week or two before release to get everyone salivating, but not months before, as seems to happen a lot.

Point taken. However some addons are work in progress and screenies are put up to keep the interest.

You will notice that I no longer put a release date on any addons, as there are a lot of things as #### mentioned that cause delays. Example: the A4 took only one day to model in O2, but texturing, scripting and testing takes time, then when released (as a public beta) more time is spent on the addon.

Fortunately what I have learned from the A4 makes the harrier development time that much quicker.

But as #### mentioned Mod/Addon makers have lives outside of the game. this must take precedence. Example: for the last six months I have  devoted some 12 to 14 hours a day on learning how to model and texture. I could afford this because I am semi retired.. however ror the next 3 years I am going back to college to learn animating and more 3d modelling.

I enjoy model making and seeing an addon flying/driving/shooting/crashing? being used in the game around the world has brought me much pleasure. This I am sure will continue as I continue to make addons for the Falklands mod. All I ask, and I ask this on behalf of all addon makers, is that those who enjoy addons please give addon makers some slack. Support us and we will continue to support you.

Partly, but it works both ways.

Example, Ballistic released some screens and a 20 mb video of Deltas a while ago, result = some people saying things like "bas are forcing videos and pics down our throats" in regards to the previews. I mean, its seems super funny to me to think of someone d/ling 20 mb of promo video, watching it, then complaining that they watched it. Or people going into a thread or website full of pics, then complaining that they saw pics.

I think promo / beta images are released for the people who really want it (as they know they can't have the addon yet). The people who complain should really just not look at the stuff, pretty simple.

The purpose of preview pics and movies is to mostly let people know that they are still working on it. Also some individuals and groups tend to test the hell out of their addons before releasing so that they do not have to re release a new version days later. In most cases I would prefer that people did this with their addons since keeping up with different versions can be confusing. Just do a re-release when significant changes can be made with scripts and such.
