USMC Sniper 0 Posted January 29, 2003 Hmm that doesn't look like Mogadishu at all, for Pete's sake he used the original OFP buildings. DF: BHD got the look and feel right, I mean where are the tin huts, run down buildings (the ones used currently are blown up, not run down). I think he should make his own tin huts, and not use any of the OFP buildings except the Apartment for the Olympic hotel.
chaztheducky 0 Posted January 29, 2003 i agree someone should make new building but for a beta its not bad
Paladin 1 Posted January 30, 2003 He might just be using the stock houses temporarily until he can make some new ones. Anyway I think it's a great start. At least somebody is doing it. P.S. Oh yea DF:BHD is gonna be great. Got both the single and multiplayer demos. Awsome.
ebud 18 Posted January 30, 2003 I don't even see why images of this were shown so early in the process. This looks like it's months and months away from becoming something worth playing. Using stock p3ds for layout purposes is a good way to work, but this really won't be news for months, and even then I find it hard to believe that the city will be depicted accurately. There lots of aerial photos of Mogadishu on the net to use to make a realistic city. There are even sat photos that could be used to lay out every single street, tree, bush, wall, etc. it's that detailed. Good start. I hope this get's made though. (I don't want to sound totally negative)
Cloney 0 Posted January 30, 2003 I agree with Ebud, I'm sure it would be great for simulating Urban Battle, (which OFP doesn't do to well anyway), in a fictional desert city. I think it would be wrong to call it "Mogadishu" per se.
Guest Posted January 30, 2003 I think he can call his island whatever he likes. And I think he can use whatever objects he likes. And I think he can make it however he wants, exact millimetre replication or not. And I think he can release screenies whenever he wants to, as well as releasing the map whenever he thinks it is finished/ And I think you can then choose to download it or not. And I also think that you can play DF:BHD if you like. Gawd, aren't I generous

It's a good start, but this early on in the design and prodution process it's pointless to show screens of BIS Nogova buildings in a desert setting and call it Somalia. I think it could work in the end, but don't expect much praise for something that isn't even close to being anything like the post suggests. A nice urban setting, Mogadishu, or any other 3rd world city, no. Zwadars(sp?) desert had some good desert buildings, there have been some middle eastern buildings released, etc. Now if those buildings had been used in wrp to layout even a 3-4 block area it would have been a much better attempt. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, and I'm sure it will get better, but now seems as good a time as any to critique what was shown.
