CANADAVE 14 Posted January 13, 2003 I can't figure this out. System: P4 1.7Ghz 512MB Geforce3 Sblive Cable Modem (direct, not through router or firewall) Windows XP Problem: Whenever I join a multiplayer session on gamespy I launch, and the game sits at waiting for server for ever. I've tried everything I can think of including reinstalling flashpoint, removing all running programs from memory etc.. I have not tried a direct IP connect as I can't find a dedicated server to test with - but I don't think thats the problem. I also tried hosting a game on gamespy - it launches but no one can connect to me. I don't run any kind of firewall (even the crappy XP built in one is turned off). I have played flashpoint before online on my computer BUT I was not running XP (I was on ME) and this was quite some time ago. The game runs fine in singleplayer. Other online games such as Ghost Recon, Raven Shield Demo, etc.. run fine online. Are there any specific ports in XP that I need to free up? Is there any way to diagnose this issue - I'm at the point where I feel I have to reinstall windows XP. I searched and could not find any answers...thanks for any help you guys can offer. theavonlady 2 Posted January 13, 2003 Search The FAQ for "connect play" and see if anything there helps. Also search The FAQ for "ports" regarding firewalls.

bn880 5 Posted January 14, 2003 Is it possible you are missing an addon on the server, or you forgot to upgrade the server to the proper version of the game? EDIT: lol, I didn't read properly, it's not the server you are trying to fix... pardon me

Don't know, I'm using a 3rd party firewall, not the original.
Mister Frag 0 Posted January 14, 2003 Another possibility, if you have a PPPoE connection, is that your MTU size is too large, causing packet fragmentation and the resulting ICMP packets to get dropped. Go to the DSL Reports Tools Page and use their Tweak Test to test for this.
JRMZ 0 Posted January 14, 2003 Try to connect to a server via Gamespy again with all firewalls off. XP fireswall and/or 3rd party firewalls.
abacab 0 Posted January 19, 2003 What version of Direct X do you have installed. I ran into the same prob. after installing DX8.2 and then DX9. Try going to Multiplayer and then NEW to start up a server in OFP not Res. Res will not have this prob. Anyway when the server starts up, look to see if you see your name connecting and look to see if your name appears onthe player list. If not, and you have DX8.2 or DX9 installed then you have to use DXBuster and un-install either 8.2 or 9 and go back to 8.1 to rid yourself of this prob. OFP uses Directplay to connect and 8.2 and above blocks the ports needed for OFP to connect. Thats why your names does not appear on local server and that would affect GS games also. Res uses Sockets as default so that problem never appears in Res unless you choose Directplay as your protocol. I hope BIS can come up with a patch for OFP to use Sockets also so we can benifit from DX 9.

Landorin 0 Posted April 24, 2003 Hi, I have similar but still a bit different problem, so I thought I better post this here instead of opening up a new thread. When there is no server around with my favorite map, I usually enter an empty one, vote myself to admin and type in #missions as command. Then I can choose the map from the map selection screen and I just wait for players. Now since I have custom sound files installed (works perfects), I can't select missions anymore as admin. When typing in #missions it just shows "waiting for server" and nothing happens anymore, I can only disconnect. Any known issue or solution with that? The search function showed this thread only. edit: ok I am not 100% sure but I think I know what is causing the problem. It doesn't seem to be the custom sounds' fault but rather Windows' ICS which I just installed. OFP doesn't seem to like ICS. Anyways, even using a 2nd computer with ICS and playing OFP on the non ICS computer doesn't help. Good that I'm getting a new provider soon which supports normal routers.
