scousejedi 0 Posted January 9, 2003 By overlapping faces I mean this..... I have the rear end of a tank on which there is a vent. This vent is a 10 sided cylinder. The cylinder lies completly on top of a 4 sided face. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">   Method 1 top view        side view xxxxxxxxxxx           xxx x       x            x x x   xxx   x    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx x   x x   x x   xxx   x x       x xxxxxxxxxxx Method 2 xxxxxxxxx              xxx xx     xx              x x x  x   x  x        xxxxxxx  xxxxxxxx  x   xxx   x x   x x   x x   xxx  x x  x   x  x xx     xx xxxxxxxxx <span id='postcolor'> The bottom of the cylinder is the same as the 4 sided face in the z-axis. Now, as I have done more Half Life mapping I don't like faces that share the same space as other faces but.. Method 2 To make a 10 sided hole in the 4 sided face I have to create a large number of smaller faces. I can directly connect my tank deck section to the vent. Method 1 If I just make a cylinder and force it to occupy the same space as the deck it saves a lot of faces and a lot of time. For the record I have been connecting all vents, hatches and the like with the surfaces they interact with (method 2), greatly increaing face counts and time. It also leaves my models full of small faces which are more difficult to texture. What do other people out there do? Some of you guys are so professional at this you probably think this question is a no brainer but I want to point out, where modelling is concerned I have no brain. drewb99 0 Posted January 9, 2003 OFP doesn't care if 2 faces are taking up the same space, so long as it has 3 verices connected together it's happy.
