Stealing missions

Recommended Posts

Hi.  I've played the Battlefield 1985 missions & the scripting in that is awesome.  The spawn interface & everything is very clever & original (in OFP world, yes I know there is also a game under the same name).

Well today I logged onto a server hosted by http://www.clan-gnc.com and they had a mission that was the exact code from Battlefield mission, except the authors name was removed and someone else had their name in there.  BOOO!!!

This leads to the question, how can I distribute missions that cannot be DePBOed???  I noticed missions that the game temporarily downloads cannot be DePBOed (or am I mistaken).  I tried playing a LAN game & then looked at my temp mission which was downloaded & that could be DePBOed, so maybe you can't DePBO only the internet temp downloaded ones??

Is there a solution out there?  Or do we just expose people and say BOOO which doesn't really do anything.

An OFP "Hall of Shame" web site wouldn't be such a bad idea, if it's hosted by someone relaible and accepted by the player community.

Well, that's as far as I'm willing to get involved. biggrin.gif

Very very good idea with this you can do :

Ban the author of a code because for the community he could'nt be the author.

Destroy someone you want destroy (the leader of a mod that kicks you for exemple)

I never sign my code, if someone takes it and put his name, after I can't use it without his name? If not ----> hall of shame?

More

After this you can create a script licence.

A register of ban (computer, IP, game, physical adress, photo, number of identity card)

Ok in my next mission you will see :

Well, yes.

You left out the second half of what I said:

Find someone who personifies that likeness and get them to do it and chances are that the list will be the most reliable around.

Will there be mistakes? Possibly. They're correctable. I remember a list or two like this back in my Delta Force days and it came in quite useful. People were removed from the list when it was apparent that a mistake had been made or names got mixed up or someone was spoofing someone else.

I agree with you, because (or but) it will be "half bad".

Or create a rumor forum, or humour forum?

No, finally I prefer the BOOOO of Dolittle and a touch of mépris.

Well BOO to you for making me have to look up the word Meprin.  wink.gif

Actually my post was more to wonder how I could make it so a mission couldn't be extracted.  That's all I'm worried about.  Er, concerned, not worried.  Er, let's just say CURIOUS, yeah that's it.

I know of alot of other missions that shamefully have been modified without any credit....

I dont mind if some1 improves a mission and give original author credit that just helps the maps....

But when u change hardly anything, and give no credit

in Doolittles words </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">BOOOOOOOOOO<span id='postcolor'>

So lets try that shame thing see if we can fix this...

I believe BIS have a PBO stuffer with a password lock.

Sometimes it's essential to be able to dePBO a mission though, not to rip it off, but to adjust number of players or such. As long as the original author is credited.
