Men at arms news

Recommended Posts

After a long break finally news from the "Men At Arms" team. Since the team worked very hard and engaged on the Game, unfortunately no time remained to keep everything up to date, therefore I will from now on supply you with all news and newest Screenshots of the revolutionary "MAA Client", which already is in a very progressed beta phase. Since the roughest bugs from beta phase 1 are now almost completely eliminated, the team soon wants to begin with the second beta phase.A goal of teh beta II will be the testing of the gamesystem by players itself as well as the war-system and the map generator. Finally the beta II will be open for all, to stress test the system.

It's interesting that it has news starting on the 22/3/02, and this is the first time I've ever seen or heard of it.

The other thing is there's only "THREE" staff members and no available jobs. Normally theres a larger team working on any project, some to double check what has been done, etc...

Something to think about.

If it is genuine, then it sounds like an interesting idea, though some of the weapons pictures (ie. the AK47s) might need a bit of cropping to get rid of the white around the edges...nothing major, just makes it look better wink.gif

Same here. If it is a hoax, they're going to fall flat on their arse sooner or later -> no respect

Ok, I will give 2 of you the chance to test that client together with me and the Leadprogrammer to show you that it is no fake.

MAA is something like Command and Conquer with Real Fights in OFP. The Screenshots are from the MAA Client, which is done in Flash. I added some explanations to that Screenshot to help you understanding the things you can see on them.

Of course it´s still BETA, that´s why the Explanations and Prices for all units are not available at the moment.

I do not need to hoax my way into anything, I am member of the German speaking community since one and a half years ... Perhaps you would stop talking crap and add me in ICQ ( 99863240 ) so that I can proove you HOW FUCKING REAL our Client is.

This is not really a mod, it´s more a Roundstrategygame that uses the OFP Engine for Real Time fights. And the whole Team are just 4-5 men/women (including myself).

If you want to test that client add me in ICQ 99863240. Perhaps you would believe me then and stop crying about fakes and so on.

Hi,

I'm Leonard Kausch, the Lead Developer of "Men At Arms". I just want to make a comment about the "MAA-fake-blaming" in this threat.

The news: We started the development of MAA long before the first news on 22.3.2002. MAA produces costs, thats why it has to be a comercial product. In commercial projects everybody wants to get paid, thats why the team is that small. During the development process many other people worked at MAA, but only for specific paid jobs, they where not part of the MAA Team.

The Beta II was started once, but there where to many instabilities in the system, so we delayed the betaII. As said above, about many things no news where posted, simply because we never had someone making the PR for us, and we where really filled up with work.

The textinformation of the Mining facility shown in the soldier equipment screen: Its simply a bug, its beta guys.

I hope some of the doubters will take a second look at MAA, the team worked hard to get MAA into BetaII and test everything under release conditions. People saying everything is fake is really not what we expected *g.

As I said im sorry if im wrong, but I still don't see this happening, perhaps you can post some new screenshots here to clear out our minds, I hope u can understand the dcepticism involved as hoaxing happened before...

You can keep talking...but in the multimedia era see is believe and what we see so far doesn't look real....sorry.

Also.....I don't think that getting money from a game from another company is quite legal....so you better be faking it tounge.gif ....licenced software....and that agreements...you know.

This is the first clue not to believe you. Second.....minute bills?...come on mate.....

Well....if you are "paying" the "team" who is doing that "thing" you should tell the Graphic designer....his designs are soooo yesterday......

This is my last post until you show something believable....or worth it to be comentated...

I don't see why this couldn't be true..

Ok.. It looks quite ugly and it's very unlikely that people would pay for such a thing if BIS even approves it.

But if it would be totally free and with a bit nicer gfx's I think it could be cool.

I thought everybody knows what a beta is. The fact that the MAA client is in beta stage should explain the GUI beeing not very beautyful, and the other small bugs.

We are working on a BetaII Demo Video which should clear all doubts.

We do not earn money with OFP, we take money for the service of map-generating linked with a strategic gamesystem.

And we are just taking money to keep MAA going, not to get rich.

The pay-per-minute model of MAA is outdated. MAA will be monthly paid, it will work with serversharing of the clans, which will make the costs for MAA for a user very low.

We will send a news out when we are sure about the new payment model.

MAA is NOT a Mod for Operation Flashpoint, just to make that clear.

MAA is a seperated game that also could be played without OFP if we did not implement the "realtime War Engine".

Explanation:

In MAA you can choose between different roles as a player: As the leader of a corporation(clans for example), as the member of such a corporation and as a Freelancer/Mercenary.

If you found a corporation with at least for example 4-5 other players, your task is to earn money in so called "Crisis Areas". These are Areas/Countries where the political situation is very instable and the gouvernment not very powerful. You want to raid all natural ressources or goods (for example mines, drug plantages, city raids etc.) to earn money and to buy new soldiers, equipment, buildings, tanks and so on.

At first you build up a squad to seize your first mine after landing in the Crisis Area. Mines are protected by Terrorrists or Gangs by default (respectively other corporations if they seized the mine fist) that must be defeated. If you seize a mine, city, drug plantage etc. you gather money round by round as long as this "ressource" is owned by you.

At the same time many other clans are going the same, so that will lead to CLanwars.

If you move your squad too near to an enemy unit, a warzone is generated automatically. That means that you have to arrange a war using the integrated warplaner.

If you have arranged a date and a time for the War, you will be able to make last changes to your "Squad in war" for example: Which vehicle will be the respawn vehicle, how many of my Clanmates will participate in this war and how many Mercenaries will they command etc.

An example: Corporation A wants to seize MineX. MineX is held by terrorists. A war zone is generated and both teams set up a date and time and the Server they will play on.

The war is at 19.00 o'clock... The MAA Mapgenerator generates a map automatically using the data the client sent to the main server (which weapons, vehicles and which place, day time and so on) and will automatically upload it 5 minutes before the war starts to the specific Clanserver.

After the war is fought, a debriefing screen is showed with the IDs of all destroy vehicles and killed soldiers etc.

The Clanleaders will post these IDs in the warorganizer using their MAA Client tool. If the IDs are validated by both teams the Main Server will delete all killed units and destroyed buildings etc. from the map.

That little explanation shows the following:

1. MAA is a Game not a Mod.

2. It uses OFP just to implement real war fights into the game

3. You do not pay for using OFP, you pay a little fee (about 20Cent per player per month) to keep the main server running which generates traffic and so on.

I hope I helped you to understand what MAA really is.

For those who complain about all this: Noone forces you to play MAA. Constructive critisism is welcome, but flaming around without any sense is not helpful but just useless.

I must apologize...

That sounds better. Kind of more possible.....

Anyway....if any money is really involved you should contact Codemasters as owner of the licence Flashpoint. unless you want to contact Bohemia as owner of the engine to make a full new game....or use another game to resolve the battles and contact it's owner....or make it fully free tounge.gif

Cheers:)
