JKH 0 Posted November 27, 2002 maybe a dumb question but I was hoping for some opinions before I spent the money is a separate sound card that much of an improvement over an onboard sound chip that it is worth the cost or are the sounds, quantity and quality, not that noticeable? any feedback is appreciated
Mister Frag 0 Posted November 27, 2002 It depends on what you have on-board, and what that other sound card you are talking about is. Quite a few motherboards have high-quality digital 5.1 sound output on-board these days, and the drivers are typically quite good. The Creative Labs cards seem to be a crapshoot -- depending on the model and revision of the card, the drivers being used, and OS, they either work beautifully, or they stink. JKH 0 Posted November 27, 2002 I currently have the ac'97 chip on an ASUS board. Using the latest 4in1 drivers. save my money?
TheBrain 0 Posted November 27, 2002 The AC97 is not bad. I have it, too. But a SB with EAX is sometimes nice, if a game supports it.
